Electronic Arts has officially announced the reboot of its first-person shooter war game Medal of Honor, bringing the franchise into the modern age and deploying it to Afghanistan, promising "the most authentic modern war experience" for fall 2010.

That amply bearded, box-art starring soldier is a Tier 1 Operator, "a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle" according to EA's announcement. The new Medal of Honor—known simply as Medal of Honor—will give gamers a chance to "step into the boots of these warriors and apply their unique skill sets to a new enemy in the most unforgiving and hostile battlefield conditions of present day Afghanistan."

Just like that year-old rumor said.

The all-new Medal Of Honor is currently in development at EALA and DICE, responsible for the game's single-player and multiplayer components, respectively.

Medal Of Honor will make its video debut at the Spike TV VGAs on December 12 and hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC next year. Until then, the game's official web site should keep you busy.

The first game is my favourite PSX title, loved it and I reckon without it we wouldn't have Call of Duty. The sequel "Underground" was also very good and the PC game "Allied Assault" (made by 2015, Inc who then went to form Infinity Ward) is regarded as the game that changed the WWII FPS genre. There was also a great GBA game "Infriltrator" but other titles didn't really add to much though I did enjoy Heroes 2 on the Wii.

Its a shame that they're going the present day route, I always wanted other wars to be covered which haven't been covered that much in the genre.

Glad to see them stepping into the modern warfare genre now.
This is serious competition for CoD MW 2 and 3 (which is bound to come, probably 2011)
And I'm even more glad this is coming, because I have hope this will have dedicated servers for the PC, just to trump the CoD MW2 PC version.

I liked the first few MoH games on PC, PlayStation and GameCube and Heroes 2 on Wii was pretty good too. I'm looking forward to this, Medal of Honor appeals a lot more to me than Call of Duty for some reason.

Sounds alright. The multiplayer should be good if it is handled by Dice. The only worry I have is that it will stray too close the the Call of Duty franchise. I remember having a blast with Frontline of the Gamecube. It was a great game. Best in the series in my opinion.

First Maxy Payne 3 and now MoH? They are just killing their famous franchises instead of bringing new IPs!

their FPS/Shooting games are usually (or always) great, cant expect this to be bad or something
why reboot? is it a plan to overthrow criminal hackers or bcz the series stalled for a while
afghan seems like innocent ppl killing place just like MW2, but these ppl are more intelligent than MW2 arent they?
