Retro is collaborating in the development, they're not the sole developer according to live blogs from GameSpot and IGN.
Same as Zelda?

I wish I had more information. Like is that 60 FPS even with 3D?

From what I saw at Nintendo's E3 conference the game looks just like the NDS version but with gliders :/
Well most Mario Karts are similar, but the differences now being-
- gliders and other vehicles
- you can customize wheels, frame, and other vehicle parts now
- larger environments
- besides being new, the environments seem to have more terrain variation instead of basic slopes and such

Then of course, you've got your standard graphical increase. For example...

This-

Is a huge upgrade over this-

Most Mario Kart games will inevitably play similarly to each other. They always have new tracks (and some retro ones).

You forgot kart customization, which is a very big and new aspect too, it seems.

This game is the main reason for now I'm getting a 3DS.

Also, out of curiosity, what Mario Karts DON'T run in 60 frames per second?

This. I see no graphic difference whatsoever. Just a new gameplay.

EDIT: Quickly changed my mind, I see the difference now with Granville's pics.

Pretty sure Mario Kart 64 didn't. I dunno if any others ran below 60fps (don't think so).

EDIT- i can't imagine someone not being able to tell the difference in the graphics. It's enormous.

Nevermind, should have known someone would be able to tell when i posted direct comparison shots.

I'm pretty hyped over the game itself, though the graphics were definitely underwhelming when I saw the trailer. A ton better than Mario Kart DS, but still miles off Mario Kart Wii. Maybe it's just the upped resolution of the screenshots...

At first, when I saw the gliders, I was a bit concerned. Then I saw the underwater racing, and I was even more concerned.

After seeing it in action, though, those concerns were tossed aside. The game looks awesome. It seems that they've gotten rid of tricks and bikes, which I think is a side step (as opposed to a step backwards of forward) - until I actually play it, I won't know if the glider/scuba is better than bikes and tricks, but it looks like fun. This might give us some track variation as well - it'll be interesting to see what the glider can do in Maple Treeway, for example: Will they ditch the canon and let us glide? Or will they even let us use it in the Retro Cups?

I'm super stoked.
