Everyone these days are like "omgomg graphics pwn ahhhhhhh."
Seriously? This is the Nintendo DS we're talking about. Graphics aren't that great in this handheld.

I we cared that much about graphics, most of us would own a PSP INSTEAD of a DS.

True, I meant what I said as a generalization. However, in respect to some DS games, a lot of the gameplay is extremely repetative, rather than having new things thrown at you randomly. About 8/10 games I've played for the DS I've gotten bored and just simply stopped playing them...Don't get me wrong, I don't see that as a bad thing but the way I see it, modern games are getting more and more brainless. I know there's gonna be some people that are going to say 'why bother playing the games in the first place?' Well, I really have nothing better to do with my free time and the DS is mainly my GF's system as I spend most of my time on the computer coding for work and school.

The iPlayer is just a movie/music player (albeit a damn impressive one!), it doesn't play commercial NDS roms or homebrew .nds files. The GBA emulator is unofficial and written using a shadily acquired SDK. There's a chance someone could write a .nds launcher but there's been no mention of one so far.

Sweet, A portal movie player would probably serve me better than a conventional DS flashcart as I often get bored faster playing NDS games than watching movies. If you look above, gaming is more my GF's thing. She just happened to have a spare DS to give me, and hence, why I'm on these boards so as to prevent her from spending so much money on games @ ~$30 a pop vs. a one time payment of $8 I payed for her DSTT. Also, even if the GBA emu is on a shady SDK, who's to say any of the flashcart related items are really "ligit?" Perhaps when I graduate and finish my master's in comp sci engineering, I could figure something out to make it more stable or whatever may need to be refined in the future. I wouldn't mind going back to older games such as the original M&L and the older zelda games even if the emulator may be unstable or illegitimate.

If you're looking to use the DS as a portable movie player than the iPlayer is ideal. Moonshell (the most commonly used video player on the DS) is a great little player and has decent video quality but everything needs to be converted. With the iPlayer it plays DivX, Xvid etc. so you can just drop the stuff on there.

I'm not sure if the GBA player is open source tho, so not sure if you'd be able to help out with the development and I don't know how to go about obtaining the SDK. Darkchen (the guy who wrote the emulator) just said he "acquired" it but gave no other details. It's a shame they haven't released the SDK, it'd be a great little homebrew cart. The GBA emu just proves how much more beefy it makes the DS. It kind of reminds of the SuperFX chip in the old SNES games in a way.

That's a clone site and the firmware wasn't released by the R4 Team. As far as I know that firmware won't run on a real R4 without messing about ie. encrypting it. People who have used it also say that none of the game fixes work for them either. There's plenty of threads about it in the R4 sub-forum from when the clones first started appearing and releasing updates.

No probs but I think with the R4 I think the best chance of playing it is if someone fixes it in a DSTT firmware so that you can use YSMenu to play it. Don't know when that will be though.

Fair nuff. Some people are a little bit more secretive with their coding as it may be implemented in future developments. No sense risking someone stealing your code when you've got it relatively under control. I'm sure I'll find a way when I'm a little bit more proficient with the coding thing to get around and figure out whatever SDK he used. If not, no big loss, at least there's people developing new ways.

As for development of a DS emu for the iPlayer, I'm just gonna bring up a way too overquoted phrase: "If there's a will, there's a way." and leave it at that haha. Hence, in my opinion, I think that if I were to get iPlayer, I doubt I'd be disappointed considering i barely even use my DS for gaming and I still have a DSTT to keep me entertained when all else fails.

On a sidenote, is there a possibility to load another GUI for DSTT to run videos similar to the way R4 does? If so, that'd be greatly appreciated if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Once it's successful enough and easy enough to implement Nintendo will just license the technology/source out to whoever wants to protect their stuff.

Its hardly 'technology' or really much effort gone into the protection at all i'm surprised they have not made it more complex yet it certainly could have the potential to be much harder than it is now.

I just used the word technology for want of a better term. I've not looked into the protection they're using so don't know how it works.

Yeah DSTT is another flashcart! Nightmare that your R4 clone won't run YSMenu, it's probably the best chance you have of running the game without buying a new flashcart.

dstt is like the r4 but has more compatibility and is cheaper

for sure. Best 5 bucks I've ever spent! Don't plan on buying another flashcart till this one becomes fully obsolete...only other one I'd buy in near future would probably be the iPlayer for the no need for conversion...too bad school just started for me again and $$ is tight
