I cant deny I think the manhunt franchise is about as bad as it can get for gaming.
but the issue here is that people have decided that adults shouldn't be allowed to make the decision of buying this game, and that, is far more disgusting than any content on the actual game itself.

Sony and Nintendo have always had a no AO policy.
AO titles are mainly rated so for pornographic content rather than violence.

This is the third violent game to recieve an AO rating but the first because of the violent content.

The last one was GTA: SA over the Hot Coffee incident, but was never sold as AO, it was withdrawn from sale whilst it was corrected, then re-rated back to M.

The other was Thrill Kill, which was cut to meet the requirements for an M rating but was canned a few weeks before release by EA, who said they didn't want to "publish such a senselessly violent game".

Almost all the other AO games are on the PC, with one other being on the CD-I.

I read that the game designer/creator compared Manhunt 2 to violent horror films. While he may be correct from a content standpoint, his argument does not hold water when considering the potential impact upon customers. There is an immense difference between watching something be done and doing it yourself.

Yes. The funny thing is that watching it is more dangerous because you get more involved emotionally. See http://www.bbfc.co.uk/news/stories/20070417.html for reference...

That's exactly what this is about. I don't want to support state censorship, of any kind. If a store doesn't want to carry a violent game or a website doesn't want to allow you to post porn on it, fine. If a state bans these things generally, that's always bad. Console makers banning things from their systems is somewhere in between. It's problematic to make console makers license games they don't want to but it's also problematic to let them abuse their monopolistic powers.

I understand that it's a good idea to keep children from getting violent or pornographic games and movies because they are by definition not able to choose themselves what's good for them. Adults should be able to do that, though, and for law to be simplified, most countries have set the point where you become an adult at a safe 18 years. I see no reason to prevent anyone from living out their sick fantasies in games and movies. The negative effects of this are pretty neglectable, and in some cases it might even work as a substitute for really going out there raping and killing people so that balances it even further.

! IDEA! wasn't there like a motocross game for GBA that the developers wanted Nintendo to publish but they said no, and they distributed it for free on the homebrew scene? Wouldn't these guys be able to do the same thing since if they made it for Wii and PS3, they could just post up the iso so who ever wants can have it? There. Bypass Nintendo, Sony, and store altogether.

Well looks like we're gonna have to wait for this game seeing Take Two have delayed the game to get a M rating. Bit of a shitter really but I'm sure an directors cut would appear sometime.

What if a company made a sex simulator starring 2 year old girls? Is that okay to put on store shelves? If the government says no, "ZOMG censorship!"
EDIT:

Umm....

They practically have, and it's getting released just fine in Japan soon.

You touch preteen children in sexual areas to determine if they aren't/are a witch, as witches apparently don't have sexual organs.

I am so mad at this!!! This game seems amazing and we won't get it because of some stupid council saying it's too Mature for a M rating. They should just put a freaking sticker saying that the faint of heart and mind should not play. Also make everyone who buys it get informed on the game and an ID is needed. Agh!

I don't see this as being entirely about adult gamers' right to choose. I know of quite a few fucknuts who would leave this game lying around where their kids could get at it. Does anyone here really think that a 4 year-old child playing manhunt 2 is a suitable scenario?

Or does the "but I want to play manhunt 2" point of view overrule all arguments?

A 4 year old probably couldn't control the game and he would not really understand a thing. He would also not enjoy it and just go do something else. Take a look at what's in plain sight for 4 year olds on TV. Do they care? No, they want to watch Teletubbies.
If you don't limit it to 4 year olds, that argument is still flawed because you simply can't protect children from stupid uncaring parents by banning media. The parents would just get the next worse thing. If the child has internet access, the only limit would be it's own curiosity. Everyone is goatsed sooner or later, even in Harry Potter forums and AOL chatrooms.

And for those that complain of censorship...come on. How can you complain about something that is virtually non-existant? What if a company made a sex simulator starring 2 year old girls? Is that okay to put on store shelves? If the government says no, "ZOMG censorship!"
If it stars real girls, the makers have to be arrested for abusing children. If it stars virtual girls, it would be very sick but I would not see a big problem with it. Nobody is harmed by making it. Will it increase child abuse? I don't know and that is an undeniable risk. Some discussion and scientific investigation would be necessary. If it indeed leads to significantly increased crime rates (and is the main cause), that would justify a ban.
A game like this probably exists on the internet or in Japan already...

Many people in this dark age of information (come on, we are not very enlighted... you mostly get the wrong (biased) information in this chaotic sphere we call cyberspace and choose to believe it, not knowing better) does not realize the simple concept of freedom under responsibility.

There are things you CAN, and things you CANNOT do. Okay? Simple as that.

By your reasoning jimmyj ("A kid might come across it, ZOMG BAN!"), shouldn't everything unsuitable for children be outlawed? Like porn for example, and judging by your signature, I'm sure you wouldn't mind that at all.

It's a sphere!? I always thought it was tubes.

As for the internet being full of biased crap, well, yes it is, but so is all media, only the internet allows you to experience crap with biased views from both sides of the argument.

Yeah this kind of game does go to far, but anyway that's take 2's problem. How much you wanna bet that in a a few weeks time this game will show up on some torrent increasing the demand for the game to be released, and most likely on purpose to add hype to the now banned everywhere game.

I don't understand why the world needs a game that lets you use the Wiimote and nunchuck as pliers and rip people's balls off with them. How can this be called a video game. It's sick unnecessary. Why do these elements need to be in a game?

And for those that complain of censorship...come on. How can you complain about something that is virtually non-existant? What if a company made a sex simulator starring 2 year old girls? Is that okay to put on store shelves? If the government says no, "ZOMG censorship!"

EDIT: And the reasoning of "it's in movies, why can't games have it?" Movies shouldn't have this kinda crap either. But since movies have it, all following forms of entertainment should too? That's like saying since I shot myself in the foot, all future people should do the same.

You don't decide for me. You don't decide for the world. Your opinion doesn't matter in comparison to mine. I will decide what I watch, look at, or play. Not you. You will not control me. And if you attempt to, you won't like the outcome at all.
