Now, how are we going to get at this game?

Where can it be bought from? Is a PAL release totally off the cards now.

So far it has been banned in the UK and Ireland, plus we can pretty much say that Australia, New Zealand and Germany will follow soon.

That leaves the rest of Europe that could possibly carry it, unless it is banned by those countries.

Also it hasn't yet been rated in America.
I dunno, I think NZ has been pretty good with gaming censorship, I don't recall if manhunt got banned (I do remember playing, and thinking how shit it is), but I do recall many games advertising the fact they got banned in Australia

Its not like half the FPS games that are you that you hunt and shoot people to death, grenade them, possibly run them over... Yet all the games i've played you cannot sever limbs. Can you sever limbs in this/any other game? Because in some incidents (being blown up by a C4 in Counterstrike Source) would scorch your skin, incinerate your body until it is no more, or otherwise sever/destroy some limbs.

Guys you really hurt me there....

All those comments hurt....

Everyone is scared about manhunt not coming to England and the rest of Europe. People from England wonder if the French and German versions have English language on them. You really hurt us, Dutchies.

The Dutchies, unless French and German, are clever and most speak fluent English (and often even a bit of German/French). Therefore all games in Holland are published with the 5 languages usually with standard language as English.

So don't fear, us Dutchies are here!

I like to point out the fact that even the Dutch government was thinking about banning this game, but now I've read even worse news for all:

Manhunt in het nauw

For the English speaking: it's about Rockstar deciding Manhunt 2 will not be coming to the Wii and PS because of the rating AO (Adults Only) in America which it will almost certainly get.

Sucks to be Rockstar and Take Two right now. I guess their only option is to censor it although the BBFC state that any changes are unlikely to result in a rating being given to the game since the core of the game itself revolves around murdering people. Interestingly the fact that the game is unrated only makes it illegal to sell over here - but legal to own.

I wonder if a PC port is on the cards?

If this does get banned by ninty, what are the chances it'll get leaked? my only experience of this sorta thing was Thrill Kill on the ps1, it got pulled when EA tookover the original publishers and i think the ppl who created it leaked a beta on the net. Im of the opinion that sorta thing wont happen these days, but copys of it are obviously knockin about

I doubt they will do this, but I wonder if they will leak the game onto the internet so we can download it for free. What they'll probably do is what Darkforce said and edit it.

Did I miss something? Nintendo is not banning anything here, it's the UK government banning the sale of Manhunt 2 in the UK.

Yes, the game has received a Adults Only rating in the US by the ESRB and Nintendo and Sony has commented saying they don't allow AO games on their consoles.

Not good. Even if it goes too far, banning a game like this is wrong and pretty much viotates the human right of free speech. I'm not sure if the UK has thier own equivatent of America's 1st Amendment which basically prohibits the banning of any media. Banning a game goes against that.

Isn't free speech more linked to like having the right to express your opinion or something? Manhunt is not really about expressing an opinion is it? Also there's no way any kind of media is allowed just because of the first Amendment, what about a game in which you have to rape black children, I suppose that would be banned by some law...

Free speech is the right to expression, and a game is a form of expression. Too bad that the UK doesn't have that ):

Too bad Nintendo and Sony both ban AO games, since that means Manhunt can't be released as of now...I mean, giving it the AO rating would be fine if nobody banned it from anything. Stores should just ask for an ID when selling an AO game to someone.

(edit) BTW, the difference between violence in videogames and violence in movies is this: in movies you watch someone else while in games you act out the violence. That's why all the grey-haired citizens are against violent videogames for kids.
Be honest, you know that this game is destined to be played by little Bobby down the road. We all know that '18 certificate' means fuck all when it comes to games (the amount of 10 year-old British kids who own San Andreas is staggering)
See this BBFC study for what effect this really has: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/news/stories/20070417.html

When did Sony start banning AO games?

this is just such a stupid issue, everyone is being so fuckin stupid about it.

ok, so the esrb rates it AO, not good enough? think it deserves a more extreme rating? then just ban it in your country, hold on, ban it completely on your damn console.

does no-one even think anymore?

all these excessive precautions are just undermining the esrb, and just confirms people's beliefs that no one takes any notice of their ratings.. fucking morons

Aww... I wonder how the controls would have been for wii... Use the wiimote and its like you're actually scraping out the intestines of some unlucky SOB and with the nunchuck feed it into your mouth uncontrollably. That sounds like a good game to me.

Normally my eyes glaze over when I hear that familiar "violence in video games" tirade. This time, however, I'm inclined to agree with this banning and an ESRB AO rating. This game goes beyond casual violence into sadistic, depraved mutilation.

The fact that the Wii remote adds another level of immersion only increases the twisted psychopathology that the game forces upon the player.

I read that the game designer/creator compared Manhunt 2 to violent horror films. While he may be correct from a content standpoint, his argument does not hold water when considering the potential impact upon customers. There is an immense difference between watching something be done and doing it yourself.

We don't need games like this that indulge fantasies that only sickos carry around in their heads. What's next? A terrorist game where you plant bombs in local supermarkets and crash planes into buildings full of civilians in order to promote your terrorist agenda? A game where you play a rapist that has to do as many deeds as he can while aluding the police? Where is the line drawn?

There are certain memes and immoral pursuits that should not be given mainstream attention. In regards to Manhunt 2, the only thing that needs to be brutally murdered is that franchise, which is at the same time both disgusting and unnecessary in the video game industry.
