Good, I hope it was banned but on the merit that "Manhunt" is a crap series of games....and not becuase of the blood, guts and killing featured in the game. I hope the same happens for an equally crap series Halo (I can only wish) that series should be banned for being so damn lame. And then there is Big Brother, not a game so slightly off topic but responsible for social problems, stupidity and chav like morons all over the glode - surley thats more damaging to us all than a "game"........

It has also been banned in Ireland as well.

I can't remember the last game that was banned and stayed banned.

Carmageddon, the last banned game in the UK, was released twice, once with zombies w/ green blood and then later fully uncut.

Postal was banned for years and then released, uncut.

I agree with jumpman this game does go too far. Games like the suffering are also bad, but use creatures. On manhunt its really people your killing in loads of sick ways. I do think we should be given the choice. I blame the parents for letting kids play these type of games. If they didn't it would be released in this country. Lets just hope if can be patched for USA. Either that or the french or german versions are easy to understand.
don't worry, us dutchies will get an english version

Nice little rant you got there!

I liked Manhunt, it was nice nothing amazing but good. I expect this to be unbanned soon, otherwise other games and maybe certain films will get banned.

Now, how are we going to get at this game?

Where can it be bought from? Is a PAL release totally off the cards now.

I find it very amusing that, despite the fact no-one has played the game, everyone knows that it 'goes too far'.

Also, as for it being crap, I'm sure I saw it get more than a 9 rating on some pre-release review.

So far it has been banned in the UK and Ireland, plus we can pretty much say that Australia, New Zealand and Germany will follow soon.

That leaves the rest of Europe that could possibly carry it, unless it is banned by those countries.

Also it hasn't yet been rated in America.

I don't understand why video games get such a bad rap when movies like saw and hostel aren't even given a second look.

Saw and Hostel were excellent Movies, looking forward to Hostel 2 and check out Dead Silence if you get the chance too! Its good.

Back to topic, its true, movies seem to be getting more gruesome, which is not a bad thing, ive seen alot of horrors, slashers, etc, never once has the thought entered my mind to do anything i have seen on screen, be it movie or video game.

Porn on the other hand, well, i try to copy most of what goes on screen! haha!

well i can see where there coming from since someone was killed apprentaly due to first 1 but i wanted play still i do have a ntsc wii so i can just order 1 from a us store.

Noone was killed "due to the first one". Some fuckhead murderer played a game, and becouse he already was a fuckhead he desided to murder someone.

You shouldn't listen to the bullshit you hear on the news, as legendofphil said:
it was the victim not the killer that had Manhunt.

Good. Honestly I think Manhunt goes too far.
So you think it's good that a game you don't like is banned in another country?
Torture porn like Saw et al. is far worse in that it depicts actual people, but that doesn't get banned because it has more money behind it.

Censorship is fucking ridiculous, I don't care if you like the material being censored or not. I personally have no interest in Saw and it's ilk but I would be upset if it were banned, we are supposed to be living in a free society.

The easy response is that watching a movie is a passive experience, while playing a video game is you *doing* the actions and causing the death.

Although that's pretty much rubbish, as it's still a ridiculously enormous leap to do something in a game and then transfer that over to real life.

People have different reactions to films because at cinema they are out of reach for those under the certificated age and at home most parents don't allow them to be view by children not of that age.

The problem with games is that most parents just think its harmless and other people are scared about a new form of entertainment.

That may still be true for most countries but it isn't anymore in Germany: USK seals are legally binding, you are not allowed to sell an 18+ game to anyone under 18. As for parents caring... Many parents don't care at all, whether it's movies or video games. Those that do care are probably more hysterical about video games now what with all the media hype, or they have some insight into the subject matter.

The funny thing is that this has the opposite effect of what you would expect: You don't get emotionally involved in a game. Thus the game remains abstract at all times. Movies don't have interactivity so for them the only way to entertain you is playing with your feelings, i.e. disturbing you etc. There was a British study recently that came exactly to this conclusion: http://www.bbfc.co.uk/news/stories/20070417.html

I still dont agree, i grew up watching violent cartoons, He-Man and the like, TMNT, etc, these were heroes who carried swords/knives/nunchuks, its not like i ever picked one up and tried to hurt someone with similar items! Its all crazy! I played streetfighter for years with my friend and final fight and streets of rage, we still didnt go out and start fights in the street, whereas this sort of cencorship/banning suggests we should have copied the games and went out and trashed phone boxes to get the roast chicken underneath to keep our energy level up!

You probably aren't borderline insane but some people are and who knows how they will react? At least that seems to be the general justification...

They reckon TMNT would have never been released in the UK when the first cartoons were released years ago. The name sounded too violent. They changed the name instead to Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Compared to the stuff being shown on TV these days TMNT, He-Man and programs like the A-Team wern't violent at all. The classifications these days are a joke as well. 10 years ago some of the 12 films may have been rated 18.

We actually live in a world (most countries anyway) with less censorship than ever before.

Its just that when something like this comes along it is such a big deal because it is so rare now.

But I agree with OrR, it is the small perecentage of the population that has these mental issues, seeing these things can push them over the edge.
Remember that kid who said he shot his parents because he thought they could dodge the bullets like in The Matrix.

Not good. Even if it goes too far, banning a game like this is wrong and pretty much viotates the human right of free speech. I'm not sure if the UK has thier own equivatent of America's 1st Amendment which basically prohibits the banning of any media. Banning a game goes against that.
