I'm shocked no one has posted about this yet, but there have been 2 updates to sdl mame released in the thread over at tehskeen.
Its running most old school Konami roms (TMNT, Simpsons, Xmen, Gradius III, Contra, etc) considerably better than the last release.
They are unofficial alpha releases with the official build still pending, but still, I figured it was worth pointing out.

yes it does rock. I have tried all those games and they run great. it takes a little bit to get used to the format but once you got it (figuring out how to configure the controls) it rocks

Yeah, that was the toughest part for me, too, was configuring the Classic Controller.
That and the whole refreshing the rom list since it just picks them at random.

as long as it's still in this bs format it's still bad all the bs config you have to do in it makes you just not want to use it. they need to make a proper homebrew emulator.

I put my roms in the folder, boot the emulator, select my game with the wiimote and play the games?

I'm not sure what you mean by "bs config" and "make a proper homebew emulator"? lol

"they need to"
what they need is people encouraging them to improve the emulator and appreciating that someone is working on it again, not having people who never do something constructive but complaining/bashing when they are frustrated something is not at their "standard"

btw, many people are using it right now and are perfectly happy with it

Not sure what you mean by "bs config"...
You have to configure the classic controller once.
The only other issues are with people using the wrong rom sets, that's a problem inherited from the pc version.

Just tried it with tmnt.zip and wow I'm very impressed!

the emulator starts in immediately compared to the linux wich took like 2minutes to load.

the load times for the roms are quite fast also compared to the linux one.

no need for gamecube controller, you can play with the wiimote or classic controller instead.

SDHC is supported. CPS1 is supported.

the only thing I noticed is...... where is the exit menu?
