I would consider signing it when they, they being those I have seen running smash tournaments, sort out their tournament rules, learn the general theory of competition design, grasp general ideas behind games and make a nice public statement regarding how badly they hosed it up in the past.

I'm surprised you'd want Sm4sh to become a legitimate sport before Melee, which has been recognized and played for ages.

Smash Bros is still played so mixed. The rules don't suit a major Esports and they're still wishy washy on so many things). There isn't any concise official ranking for players, a new Smash game keeps coming out every few years (melee isn't accessible on a large scale, dolphin has input lag and isn't 100% accurate emulation etc). Current Smash scene is just people going to dodgy college dorms with two nobodies on the mic with low cash payout, exceptions to the rule are like EVO and even then only the top players will earn cash the rest of the shitters won't earn anything. There doesn't seem to be a paradigm shift happening any time soon.

And a point that everyone makes is that it's not Nintendo's goal to make it an Esports.
