i typed in pokemon soul silver dumped rom from xenophobia and i didnt get anything that even resembles nds roms. i tried patching with a clean rom but it just came up with 0 bytes file

You get a file that has 0 bytes when you patch but then you WAIT for it to become patched. OK! After a while, then it won't be 0 bytes.

yea but ive done that and waited and waited and had lunch and waited some more and still 0 bytes

I reccommend downloading the KH 358/2 days patch.
It comes with a version of the Xdelta GUI which works a WHOLE lot better and is a crapton easier to use.

I just redid patching.. This is what I did:

Extract Rudolf Fix Patch
Extract Clean, Untrimmed, Original HG/SS ROM into the same folder as Rudolf Fix Patch
Extract Magnius's Patch
Copy/Cut and Paste Rudolf Fixed HG/SS ROM into the same folder as Magnius's Patch
Execute xDelta GUI.exe
Click on Select Patch and choose appropriate patch for your HG/SS ROM
Click on Select ROM and choose the Rudolf Fixed HG/SS ROM
Wait and be patient.

I just waited like 20secs? I refreshed the page while patching to see the progress.. As Magnius's Translated HG/SS will appear on the same folder as the Magnius's Patch.. Its size will slowly increase as it finishes. You'll end up with something around 120+mb?

BTW, I also tried with a Clean, Untrimmed, Original HG/SS ROM. Same procedure less the application of Rudolf Fix.. Same results. (but yeah.. I can't get pass the title screen without the Rudolf Fix. And the Rudolf Fix only works on a Clean, Untrimmed, Original HG/SS ROM. So I always apply it first before the translation patch.
