Mad Catz files for bankruptcy

image.jpeg

If you have ever purchased a third party accessory for your console, the name Mad Catz might be familiar to you. The company known for their cheap memory cards, off-brand controllers, and other peripherals has just filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy. Mad Catz and its subsidiaries will be liquidating their assets, as well, and the officers and directors of the company have all stepped down as of March 30, 2017. Founded in 1989, Mad Catz has acquired brands like GameShark, Tritton, and Saitek. The cause their demise is thought to be due to the poor sales of Harmonix's Rock Band 4, which Mad Catz was in charge of, taking financial responsibility for marketing and lacking sales of peripheral hardware.

The cause of their demise goes beyond Rock Band 4. Everything about them was going downhill, hardware included. Off the top of my head I can think of their Android console, which was supposed to get new life with OUYA Everywhere, but that also became a failure, OUYA of which got acquired by Razer, a company that I think was tough competition for Mad Catz.

Sad to hear news like this. They made the best arcade/fightsticks that money can buy IMO. Seems like now HORI is the go to place for arcade/fightsticks now since trying to find a madcatz arcade/fightstick now people will price gouge them. It's the end of an era.

That's too bad.
I know everyone likes to shit on them a lot but I only own two Mad Catz products - both are wireless controllers for the PS2, and while they are a little on the small side, they work great. So my experience with Mad Catz is positive.

I thought Mad Catz was a third party manufacturer of Nintendo accessories, because all the products I got from them were Nintendo ones. Then again I only had Nintendo consoles, apart from a Sega Genesis. I had some GC controllers from them, unfortunately they weren't very durable, whether it be my fault or theirs. GC memory cards, I'm sure I had one of those, a bunch of GBA accessories, such as a screen lighter for the original GBA, link cables as well, which I still have. I guess Nykoo and Hori took the reigns as I've come across more of their Nintendo accessories these days, Mad Catz, was early to mid 2000s. Sucks for them.

There was a time where we were able to bypass the school's network using a VPN that wasn't blocked on the radar. Can't exactly remember the name, but I was able to watch YouTube.

One of the sites that weren't blocked on the school's network was some file uploading sites. I would upload some games, write down the URL and take it to school one day.

It was easy to bypass some of the restrictions, as one of the admins left a registry key in the administrative shares drive, which allowed me to get around the blocking of some sites.
