Buy a used Mac Mini for 2 or 3 hundred, and a cheap 19" LCD monitor, cheap mouse/keyboard.
That should last you until you can afford the iMac of your dreams.
Then you can re-purpose the Mini as a video streamer/file server.

Nice thing about Macs, they stay useful for a long time. I'm still using my old G4 tower and my eMac productively, and I've had 'em for years.

No, I'm not a Mac user and I probably never will be since I find their computers too expensive in comparison to their specs.

I suggest you watch the new movie called MacHeads (2009). Its a movie about mac users. I lol'd a few times.

Also I am a PC user for life. But I do own a old Macbook someone gave to me but I don't use it.

Have this song a listen "A laptop like you" by Jonathan Coulton. Mac users will rejoice.

I use one at work. Use Vista at home. Its fun switching back and forth on a day to day basis...

I was given a tower for free, so I use that, running Mac OS X 10.4.11. Previously, I've been a user of Windows 98 and Windows XP, and my sister owns a Vista laptop, so I have experience with that too... Honestly, I think the Mac is the best overall.

Gambia, The
no real mac user because of lack of money and because it wouldn't be so productive for me. I'm more in programming stuff than in arts. and I tried using my PC as hackintosh but my graphics card is bad in windows 7 and os x...it is causing flashing screens :/
but I think OS X is ahead of windows...just look at how fast it goes into sleep and wakes up with a harddrive...that's impressive
