Hey all,

I just got my wii last week, got it modded, and I'm constantly getting DRE's. I play Super Smash Bros. Melee for about 10 minutes and in the middle of playing it complains that it can't read the disc and craps out.

I played WarioWare for about 45 Minutes and then it crapped out.

I'm burning on Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R Media at 4x speed. I'm also burning through Apple's Disk Utility in Mac OS X. My drive is a Pioneer DVR-109.

Anyone having same issues? Suggestions? Did the guy eff my install? -- It's a Wiikey by the way.

Try using Toast 8 rather than the OS X burning tools.

I've found it superior for any type of media burning I do in OS X.

I tried in Toast 8 -- It says that it doesn't recognize the disc image.

EDIT -- Allright, burned Super Smash Bros. Melee with Toast 8. Didn't make a difference.

Anyone else have a Dual Processor G5 with a Pioneer recorder?

I played Super Paper Mario for about an hour with no DRE's, however it was burned on my Laptop (MacBook Pro) in Windows through Nero. But that was burned at 2x. My burner in my G5 doesn't allow 2x, only 4x and up

I'm also having the same problems.
Tried burning zelda and the wiifree config disk with Disk Utility, but both won't read.

I'm using a wiifree chip.

Dont ever use Toast (For NGC or Wii everything else is just fine

). Disk Utility is your friend. Probably sounds dumb but have you guys unscrambled before burning? I would burn at 2x in Disk Utility as that works for ngc minidvd-r's that I have.

I went back to check on my chip, and it did have a bad connection.
Re-soldered it and it works like a charm.

All the discs I burnt with Disk Utility worked fine, except the Wiifree setup disc.

Stop believing the myth that slower is better - you may find you have better results at 8x or even 12x.

Slower is not better, fact. If your computer can handle it (ie. the buffer never gets low) then it's much more highly recommended to burn at the rated speed of your discs.

from experience (at work where we have a lot of macs and pcs) macs always tend to have low cost hardware, I don't know a lot about dvd burner, but it could be the cause (that and the fact the wii seems to be picky about the burner)

I'm burning my games using disk utility. Sometimes I got issues, but it's almost always working flawlessly.

I don't know about you, but I think Macs have some of the best quality hardware out there. Hell, my iMac G3 still works like a charm, and it's pretty damn old.

Low cost hardware?? pfft. If anything, they are the most expensive of the branded, non-gaming PCs (yes, Macs are PCs) available. This might have to do with MS paying out to have companies like Dell to have only Windows-based PCs.

I can revive dead computers by installing Xubuntu on them just fine. Windows doesn't age as well as the Unix-based OSes.

I have a Wiinja v1 and have had zero DREs. I don't know what a DRE looks like. Tried 20+ backups and all work fine, including GCN. I burnt all my Wii games in Disk Utility using Memorex(I forget the media code) DVD-R @ 16x using an LG GSA-H10A.

And yeah, low cost hardware in Macs? Don't be silly

Allright, I found the winning combination

For Wii games, I burn them on Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R (Inkjet Printable) -- media code TYG02 -- at 8 speed. Burning at 4 speed causes DRE's.

For Cube games, I burn them on Ritek Mini DVD-R (Inkjet Printable) at 4x.

Now she's flyin

Its funny how fast any topic regarding macs degrades into an epenis measuring contest...

I use disk utility, works like a charm everytime. Wiikey, and Verbatim DVD-Rs.
