Hacking M3 or R4, Which came first?

Okay, i've been reading around for quite awhile. everyone says the r4 came first. I thought the m3 was first to come out. In The Definitive R4DS/M3simply FAQ thread, Questions? Answers here. it said R4 came fist. So which one is it?

I'm sure R4 DS was released first but the M3 DS Simply was hyped and we had heard about it for a few weeks.

There was news about the M3 Simply but the R4 DS was just launched straight into the market just before the M3 DS Simply.

Yeah, R4 was released first but the M3 and R4 come from the same manufacturer so there's no real difference other than the names. I'll always go with the M3 brand since it's been around longer.

okay, im not confused anymore, R4 came first not M3. I was planning on getting one or two for someone else. I'll get both just to see whats it like. anyone know a good store, I was gonna use echostore but now they got crappy ratings again, from http://www.resellerratings.com and now im scared to order from them.
