The M3 team have released version v28 of their game manager software and firmware.
Here's what's new:

Does this mean it you burn it at 1x and it supports it, it will jump for 4x or vise versa

It just means both speeds work with more games. You still have to manually choose but unless you have really crappy media, you probably will never need 1x.

just use 1x or 4x (I guess compatibility is the same?)

To be exact, the V28 loader fixes:

- Improved DoFat converstion
- Games fixed: 0542, 0553, 0563, 0529, 0572, 0576, 0576, 0577
- Update game database, any games before 0577 can be converted w/o checking setting.

converted to 4x correct? but doesnt it cause crashed in some games? i havent updated yet(at work). but i couldnt get MvsDK to work last night, and even hoops3v3 was giving me trouble.

Yes, this is just a game manager update. This is the best version yet though, in my opinion. I tried to do this with the last version, and it didn't end up working out too well- set all games to 4x fast mode, and hope for the best (I recently switched to a different memory card and wanted to repatch in trim mode). However, in this version, it automatically set everything correctly when I did this, it all worked perfectly in all the games I've tried so far.
