After reading Spade's review i've decided to go Slot 1, my problem is that i've been told to go R4 because they are pretty much the same. I've looked and though very alike and 10$ difference in price(couldn't find a M3DS Simply for 35$) i've noticed a somewhat more intriguing GUI and even soft reset+brightness changes available on the M3. So i'm stuck in a pardicament of whether or not to fork out the extra 10$+S&H on GameYeah for the M3 vs the R4, if anyone has some input please post it here!

they are both the same but the company who makes r4ds also makes the m3 but the r4ds always get updates first then the m3

IMO either one is fine but if your hardcore i would go with the r4ds :-)

i have had my r4ds for awhile now and i love it best 40 bucks i ever spent !

Latest R4 firmware has the soft reset and brightness adjustment and their update with that stuff came before M3's did. I've got an R4 but it really doesn't matter which one you get since they're almost identical. That being said, price should be the only deciding factor right now.

If anyone can find a M3 Simply for less than 45$ do post it here as it will help this debate!

One question to seal my R4 purchase, is it possible to give my R4 the M3's GUI?

There should be no difference. The choice is yours [IMG]

Does R4 and M3 Simply DS use the same GUI filetype? If so I could just put their GUI file on the R4 and it'd look the exact same, though i'm sure the menus are different, oh the hassle.. If someone has the GUI i'm interested in downloading it!

The only differences between the R4 and the Simply are the price, the name, and the R4 firmware updates come out 2 days sooner. The firmware works exactly the same way on both carts, it just takes 2 days for M3 to rebrand it after R4 releases an update. You cannot use the M3 firmware on the R4 or vice versa.

They both use the same skins, and the same dldi patch for homebrew.

I believe Castlevania: POR is a bit worse in terms of compatibility on the M3Simply (In one of the news posts that it did not run well with the famous brands), but don't quote me on this :X

Seriously, they are exactly the same. If you find an R4 much cheaper, then get it. If the difference is only a couple dollars, they buy whatever makes you all warm inside.

I personally have an M3Simply (two actually) and I love it

And by the way - yes, you can skin R4 to look like M3 Simply. [IMG]

Yea, besides the fact it says English R4 on the top screen [IMG]

If you get a newer batch, you can't do the conversion, so the question above is pretty pointless. Just go with whichever you like. My friend got an R4 because he thought it sounded better than M3 [IMG]

I would like to know how that can even be logical as the m3 ds simp and the r4 use the same identical hardware and firmware

the skin files are exactly the same in every way.. in fact up until 2 days ago i was using an M3 skin (orange by tonyhawk), so my R4 said 'M3' on it for the last month or so.. now i'm using a vista theme.. the menus are not different at all either, 3 buttons on the main screen, etc. etc. - the same on both systems.

and the brightness and reset functions were on the R4 first, in fact i believe the firmware updates have been out on the R4 before the M3 every time so far - yet another reason why i would go for the R4.

BUT what if M3 upgraded their firmware and R4 didn't? Anyone thought of that?

    I don't think it'll happen -> the M3s are based off the R4s.

The problem with Castlevania exsists on both R4 and M3Simply, but is dependable only on the MicroSD cart type.
Toshiba, Kingston Japan and PNY are good.
Kingston Taiwan, Sandisk, etc. are evil.

Back at the choice between R4 and M3Simply... Well it's a hard choice... I mean, the sticker on that M3Simply card is sexier then the one on the R4... But on the other hand, the R4 gets it's updates first, the M3 needs to modify those updates first so they don't work on R4 and change some texts, and they might get lazy after a while when the M3Real is out, so R4 is likelier to keep updating... And at most places R4 is cheaper...
So you have to make yourself the choice: "sexy sticker" or "updates and cheaper" [IMG]

So lets see what we have so far. [IMG]

    Price--------------------------------: R4
    Fast software updates----------: R4
    Hardware manufacture----------: R4
    Software creator------------------: R4
Still comes with 2 board covers: R4
Best chance for Future updates: R4

    Nicest sticker----------------------: Simply

    So even if you’re a M3 fanboy, you’re not buying a M3
    it’s a R4 with a M3 sticker & modified R4 software. But
with that being said there both excellent cards, & if the M3
sticker is worth $10-20 then your still getting a excellent card. [IMG]

I keep seeing this argument, and I'm rather curious where it comes from.

First of all, I could care less about M3 vs R4. I think they're the same hardware, and I have no loyalty to either company. I got my M3 because when I went to buy it, both were sold out and the M3 came in stock first.

My problem is that I don't get where they have a $20 price difference. I have seen places that have the R4s for about $5 cheaper than they sell the M3, but that's about it. Also, you can't really compare prices from different stores very easily, because many of them hide the cost in the shipping. If you want to compare, you have to compare the shipped cost, and that's difficult at many stores, because they don't tell you until you actually try to purchase it.

    I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something.

My M3 Simply cost me $48.47 AFTER shipping. I actually bought two, so that's (M3+M3+Shipping)/2 or ($89.98+$6.95)/2.

Has anyone actually got a R4DS shipped to them for $10-$20 less than that?

Note: I also feel better buying from a US store (the package doesn't go overseas and through customs). So, perhaps I could be overlooking some overseas options!?!?
