Hacking Luma3DS - Noob-proof 3DS Custom Firmware

I apologize for what I'm sure is a dumb question, but when the setup says to use the firmware from the n3ds folder, does this imply that I can't update my emunand via system update as I can with rxtools? I followed an incredibly simplified guide for hacking my launch 3DS and I'm finding that this is coming back to haunt me now that I'm trying to understand what exactly I'm doing.

You can still update your EmuNAND via system update. The firmware.bin only loads NATIVE_FIRM with patches, the rest of the operating system still loads from the NAND.

rxTools did the same thing. Those files you downloaded from the python script were the equivalent of the firmware.bin

That being said, in the next release you won't need firmware.bin anymore.

GBA games not working from 9.0 FIRM has to be expected As I said, when you boot a NAND, it figures out if the FIRM is 9.0 or not. If it is, it doesn't apply the reboot patch, as that would render exploits uneffective So, to load GBA and stuff from a 9.0 NAND, you have to load the FIRM from the opposite NAND (with R).

The files you don't need to put on your SD-card.

CTRNAND is the partition that store's the 3ds operating system on the system's internal NAND.

i have a weird issue suddenly, on my small og3ds .
i get Error occured please turn off 3ds< that typical black screen error thingie.

it happened after i tried launching my Blue GW card to want to play a ds game .

it works perfectly on my og3dsXL, and now whenever i boot into my aurei updated sysNAND it gives me the same error ,wont boot me into my main menu.

any clue why this has happened?

Edit: alright even after formatting the mSD and copying the files back in there, i still get the same issue.

i only have updated sysNAND and prepatched firm ticked in the boot config.

I successfully restored my original AGB_FIRM and DS_Whitelist cia's and 4.2 is patching those firms correctly. I can't wait for the next release so I can clean up my SD! #AuReiNandMasterRace.

"ErrDisp" will show more information when your 3DS crashes, although it won't really benefit the end user, as the extra stuff it displays probably won't be easy to "read" for most users. It will benefit those who know what that stuff means however.

here is the error i get upon booting updated sysNAND.

An error has occurred. Hold down the Power button to turn off the power. then turn it on again <

i would like to know what has caused this, i would not want to run into this issue with my other 3ds'es.. ogXL/n3dsXL as those 2 are also running with updated sysNAND aurei cfw.

Don't kill me but I cant launch Gateway from sysnand with the latest release (black screen) on my O3DS (seems to be working on my N3DSes). Should AuReiNand load the firmware from my 9.2 sysnand if holding L? I normally boot emunand on 10.7.

Update AuReiNAND to the latest version. Press Select at boot to open the config menu. Check the options that say "Load 9.0 FIRM" and "autoloader sysNAND". It should then automatically boot into sysNAND with the 9.0 FIRM, then you'd be able to use Gateway.

I compile from source so I'm using the latest of the latest.
It does not have the "Load 9.0 FIRM"-option.

Edit: Booting Gateway does work on my N3DSes if I boot AuReiNand holding L but not on my O3DS.

Then just choose the "automatically load sysNAND" option, but remove the firmware files that's in the /aurei/ folder.

Tried that. Not working. I don't know if I have messed with my firmware in my old one but I don't think so..

Try using the latest release, not the latest commit.

Then put the firmware90.bin file in the /aurei/ folder. Then enable the "load 9.0 FIRM" in the config options.
