Yeah, you need. But nowadays there is a tool called "OTPHelper" that checks if the downgrade worked before flashing it in sysNAND.

I got a little question about AuReiNand without a9lh. Is there a way to access the sysNAND with something like the "sysNAND rxMode"?

I'm asking this because I was wondering how I'd be able to run TinyFormat to unlink the NANDs. I don't have a 3DS without a9lh to test this out :/

Assuming you already have FBI in your Health and Safety app on sysnand, Have Tiny format CIA on your SD card. Launch pasta mode from Homebrew menu, install tiny format, run tiny format.

Hmm just updated from 3.14 to 4.2. When i restarted my N3DS i got about 4 or 5 new items on my home screen, some were games i thought i had already 'unwrapped' ages ago and another was a item with no title/name and just a black thumbnail, when i launched it it just stayed on the Nintendo 3DS splash/loading screen. Any ideas why this has happened?

Do you know if the R4 gold requires a dslite to update for 3ds compatibility? Product description states that it does.

It shouldn't. That product description is based on using it on a stock 3DS, not one with a patched TWL_FIRM and various other hacks. You may have to use one of the ds flash cart launchers to get it to boot so that you can do the 3ds compatibility update though.

I don't know about these games, but from reading the rest of the thread it sounds like the 'black' icon might be a system title from another region.

I haven't had this myself, but it sounds like it, yes. The trick is probably going to be figuring out what that is so you can delete it though.

Hmm good point, i wonder why updating from 3.17 to 4.2 has suddenly cause these titles to appear, i wounder what changed in the code for these titles to now work!

Also regarding the new AGB_FIRM and TWL_FIRM, if in the past i pre-patched either of these files do i need to do anything with these pre-patched firms now that Aurinand nativeily supports these?

I'm pretty sure you can either reinstall the stock AGB_FIRM and TWL_FIRM and let AuRei patch it, or you ought to be able to just leave them be if you don't feel like going to the trouble. So, as to why you're getting the 'black' thing, for a the people I saw this happen to it was because of the region free stuff that was added in (added in in v4.0.1). Probably this title is a different region than your 3DS, got installed by accident at some point, and just never showed up because of the 3DS blocking stuff from other regions normally.

Just download the CIAs and install them with FIB.

The numbers are 0004013800000102 and 0004013800000202.

You can get it from the 9.2 update pack. Or check the version on 3dbrew.
