This doesn't benefit people who mainly use sysNAND, I assume?
The plan is to:
- always prevent you from losing GBA saves (if I don't "lock" you to sysNAND, you'll lose your last save on a9lh)
- remain on the booted NAND/FIRM after a system setting reboot (but this can be overridden holding A - then hold L, R or nothing as usual, while holding A). This *only* applies with a9lh and a soft reboot.

Would this decrease the amount of time it takes to exit system settings?

I think it's the same speed, the code for the "lock" is very small (and if the "lock" happens, it doesn't have to realize what to boot from the buttons and the other variables.
The file that I use to remember the last boot config is only 1 byte :D

@GBHAKC75 Noob proof guide to compiling rxtools if you go through this tutorial other things will compile as well. Open cmd prompt and remember to cd to a folder you want to build in or go to directory andhold shift and right click and select open command window here. From there type git clone --recursive "link from top of github page" don't include quotes. Then enter folder it creates open command window and type "make" This is probably way more info than you need just wanted to help.

So holding A during the system settings reboot boots normally?

Looks like it works, my concern is would it cause issue with bootmanagers

Another (possibly the last) test build. I had a major derp in the bit calculations for the config (confirmed: I fail at this).
This one hopefully works.

This all only applies to A9LH. I can't do these nice things with exploits, as FIRM doesn't have the "cold boot" flag when a firmlaunch happens. Must be a clean boot.

Edit: Nevermind. Your last release works fine. I can play GBA in emuNAND and the reboot dumps into sysNAND. I can exit normally from system settings and reboot into emuNAND.

This saves me 4 secs on my o3ds xl. It's INSANE!
However, do you think that you will do something about the bug of GBA VC's saves while you are on emuNand? I mean, if I lauch and save a GBA vC while I'm on sysNand, when I relauch it i'm able to resume from the last save without problems but, if I try to save while I'm on emuNand there's noway that you can resume from the last savestate?

If you boot sysNAND after exiting the GBA game (that was launched from emuNAND), it should keep its save the next time you launch it from emuNAND, or so I've heard. I have no clue if it's something that can be fixed though.

- Added a flag to skip decrypting and patching FIRM and use the already patched ones, for a slightly faster boot and to avoid writing 1 MB to SD on each boot. Warning!: You MUST remove the patched firmwares in the rei folder after switching from a non-A9LH usage to A9LH. You have been warned! Original idea and patch by Fix94.
Create an empty file called "usepatchedfw" for this in the "rei" folder. For me it saves like a second on New 3DS.
How does this work like if I booted up sysnand with updated sysnand and used the new flag then booted into 9.0 emunand would still use the firmware.bin instead of firmware90.bin?

I think that I'll try if it works but probably the best solution for now it's just launch the GBA vC only on sysNand.

You could alternatively try the test builds Aurora's been posting on this page and the last (sorry, I only just now noticed them). If they're not working for you, then I suppose you might want to stick to launching them from sysNAND only, yeah.

K. Thanks, I didn't notice the link too.
Btw, I can confirm that boot the sysNand after exiting the GBA VC will keep the save. Now I'll test the new a9lh.bin.

EDIT: The new a9lh.bin just forces the reboot on sysNand.

I talked about that "GBA issue" on ARM9Loader Technical Details thread. Dark_samus3 told me that a patch was possible but I don't know if it has to be included into A9LH or into the CFW.
A fix would be great, that's the only thing that wants me to use sysnand instead of emunand...

Deleting the patched firm wouldn't hurt the console, as it will generate it again anyways when it finds you don't have patched firm yet. I deleted mine to make sure.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
