Hacking Luma - Can I update 3ds game directly?

So I just finished setting up Luma after using GW for a while. I heard it's fine to update sysnand, so can i update game directly or do i still need to install update .cia?

some cia converted games doesnt have digital version of the game, so if you update those type of games, they will stop working.
else, if you downloaded a game from freeshop for example or a eshop ripped cia format game, then you can update the game just fine.
