I just started playing L.A. Noire and i noticed the texture of the road and things fourher away is loading slowly. Also the frame rate seems a bit slow.
And I know the 360 is old and all that, but it seems worse than any other games I have played. Then I realise that the only game that I have played using a dvd and not a totally legit and legal backup on the harddrive.
Does games run smoother on hdd?

HDD loads wayy quicker. But it probably won't make much difference to framerate.

I will try to copy the game to hdd. I think the texture will improve. Its almost comical to see buildings and roads look like they are made out of paper to suddenly snap into high quality. And this is all the time
Is this because the system itself is slow or was it always like this 🤔

Seek and load times on DVD are far worse than even the seek and load times on the OG xbox internal HDD, so those higher fidelity models snapping in pretty late is completely normal.
For best performance with load times and whatnot, especially dynamically loaded content like new models in open world games, I would highly suggest to stay away from any optical disc based storage medium and use internal storage instead.
The game won't run faster or look more pretty, but the high res models and textures will load in significantly faster even under the worst conditions.

Thanks for a very good answer. I guess I have totally forgotten how the 360 looked back in the days.

Did the ps3 have similar problems?
Or did the blu ray read with faster speed to eliminate this problem?
Also a bit strange that they don't install to hdd or at least have it as an option. I am not picky when it comes to graphics, but in this case it is very extremely distractive

idk i didn't have a ps3, but a lot of ps3 games preinstalled themselves or made a cache, the xbox 360 you typically had to manually "install" the disc by pressing X on the game on the dashboard and clicking install, it was just completely optional to install

True until the very end of the life cycle of 360, then some games like Dragon Age Inquisition forced you to install some data to the hdd.

yeah true, i did say typically though. i'd personally opt out of games reaching that close to EOL since you usually have a nightmare port situation at that point and the game isn't worth playing on it like wolfenstein the new order or black ops 3

Who cares about Call of Duty and I played through New Order and some of Dragon Age Inquisition and they were fine.

They don't become blurry or slow, they just won't work.
No I’ve seen it plenty of times, the disc drive slows down when struggling to read some areas of the discs, in fact you can even hear it spinning down.

If you want video of it happening I can send you.

Ideally, just install an SSD and be done with disc games on 360.

True that. But I like playing on OG hardware. Even though the game runs worse, I do like to see and feel what running a game on OG hardware feels like. At least for a while, the loading on this game is as I have stated pretty weird and distractive. I remember starting Gears of War and the load time after each death was unbearable on dvd
