Just a few months after buying, the stylus of my 3DS started to fall out of it. I guess the socket became too loose.

Anyone knows of any magic trick to fix it?

    Thanks!

I have this on my DS Lite. Not on my 3DS, though. Glue solves the problem. Just make sure to have an extra stylus to actually use.

Bend it very slightly. I used to do this with the DSLite.

Look at the upper (plastic) part of the stylus. There's a strip of plastic with a little nub on it. The nub fits into a groove in the socket. The strip has some give to hold the nub in the groove, but with time it loses elasticity the nub doesn't catch any more.

Either the nub is worn down, or the strip of plastic holding it has relaxed and bent inward. Try either cramming a piece of plastic/folded paper beneath the strip of plastic to bring it back and hold it in the original shape, or reinforce the nub with a little glue (or some Sugru if you have some lying around).

use nail polish or super glue... apply a small amount at the stylus mound or at the case...

my dsi (when i had one) stylus kept falling out so i put a little clear tape around the middle so it could make contact with the housing to grip better

I can think of a couple ideas -
    • rubber cement that doesn't dry flat (a big glob should work, you just have to give it time to cure)
    • silicon sealer
    • any of the above ideas

I used plain masking tape. It stays in and gives extra grip! And its much easier to do then above.

I find all this advice strange.

Yes it is usually the nub and you can bend it up. This works decent and I have to do it often because I can't get my kids to stop biting the dang thing.

But ultimately just get a replacement stylus. Problem solved.

I have never seen this problem not be related to the stylus itself.

    4 for $1.90 on Dealextreme.

But how is that a faster/simpler/cheaper solution than a glob of glue or a strip of adhesive tape?

Good point. If you don't have any glue or adhesive tape or scraps of paper at home, buying a pack of 4 replacement pens is a valid alternative.

I put clear tape around my brothers 2DS stock stylus and it fixed it. Don't spend money on a pack of them when you can use the ones you have. Only do that if you lose them easily or need extra. We both have 2 a piece. I have a white and black one and he has the 2DS stock one and the other 2 are for his DS Lite. Indeed it's just the holder gets a little slippery over time and that's something that can't be fixed. His still has it's grip as he doesn't use it much anymore. I use mine to play GBA games still as well as emulate and play roms.
