If you know what you're doing, "WinXP manager" would help.
(that is , if you got XP, there's a Vista version too, don't know about any other version)

To add to the list of programs to clean up crap: xp-Antispy (for Win 2K+) to configure things like dumping the page file on reboot, emptying temp internet files when you shut down IE (if you use that junk [IMG]), etc. Also it seems you suspect you might have a Trojan or similar so I suggest you do a scan with HijackThis as well as SpyBot (I have found things in both that the other have missed) and also update your virus software or even switch it if it is poor (consider AVG or Avast -- both are free and considered the best by their respective users). And then there is always a format/reinstall. I like doing that every few months to clear crap off. [IMG]

most of this crap will probably just slow down your computer, or have negligible results at best.

linux would probably be the best way to speed up your computer [IMG]

other than that, if you are sticking with wind'ohs just install a good antivirus like avast
