I need a 500+ GB hard drive with an option to keep the drive on forever. I hear freeagent go has the option except I believe those only go up to 250gb? Anyway if anyone could help, thanks [IMG]

I just bought a 500 GB seagate freeagent go at office depot for $109 on sale this week. It works perfect and has software to stop the spindown issue.

I have two Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB drives and both are working great and do not spindown.
Also I checked the parameters within hdparm to see the setting and it's set to OFF.
This is internal 3.5" drives inserted in a cheap enclosure from Ebay. Working perfectly.
Not yet came across a game that freeze's...

Western Digital mybook is probably the best HD out there IMHO, it is fast, no spindown issues and looks good.

I have already tried rev13a and b and that didn't work for me... Now i'm using rev12 and this new drive and it works flawlessly.

Seagate Freeagent Go 500Gb. Has software to disable spindown + doesn't require external power source.

$100 for 500GB? That's extremely expensive, considering you can pick up a 1TB external for $84... and that's without a sale.

HDParm works with any SATA/IDE drive, provided you can hook it up directly.

I have a USB to SATA/3.5 IDE/2.5 IDE universal adapter that works perfectly. It keeps the drive constantly awake -- even when the Wii is off(I opt to unplug it when it's not being used). The real benefit to this is that I'm not restricted to a single drive and it comes in handy for repairs.
