Also, journey from darkness strider returns if you like strider 1.
Ecco The Dolphin and Ecco tides of time are probly the prettiest genny games.
Ecco Jr. Is kinda meh though.
The golden axes

Also, the sonic spinoffs are good...spinball, mean bean, 3d blast, kinda...if you dont have those sonics yet.

Gunstar Heroes! Every game mentioned here is awesome (though I haven't played Streets of Rage 2 or Comix Zone.) I also had fun with Aero the Acrobat, Altered Beast, Arcus Odyssey, Arrow Flash, and Battle Toads.

if you get an aero, get 2. It's SO much better than the first.

Well, like everyone else said, Gunstar Heroes. Can't say that enough. I also enjoyed Ghouls and Ghosts (hard as balls) and Golden Axe is also great.

But above all...

...

Shaq-Fu. Be a man.

Everyone suggested all the games I was going to suggest.
Ah, the good old days of gaming, back when video games were all unique and fun to play.
Not the cookie cutter bullshit we have today.

The Mega Drive/Genesis has some truly great games.

The Sonic games are essential 'cause those are his glory days before he started solvent abuse, the solvent in question being 3D engines.

Streets of Rage 1+2 are both incredible, but IMHO the third is kinda meh.

Road Rash is good fun in short bursts.

Outrun and Afterburner still rate amongst my top games of all time.

Chuck Rock is oft overlooked when it shouldn't be.

Zombies Ate My Neighbours was better on the SNES but the MD version is good too.

Ristar is kinda cutesy but good fun.

Golden Axe trilogy is good for stress relief.

There are just too many to list. Stuff like the X-Men games were great, for example. The system excells at simple but enjoyable games, a lot of great platformers and beat 'em ups. There's a decent selection of RPG's in there too. Also if memory serves Contra Hard Corps was on there, one of the oft overlooked games in the series. It's harder than curried nukes strapped to an attack dog, but damn it's good fun. Also look into the frankly phenomenal Castlevania Bloodlines.
