Hey guys, quick question. So back in the day I used to use a USB thumb drive to load my homebrew apps through Homebrew Channel. My question is that if I can do the same thing with a USB hard drive. The same one I'd be running Wii games off of with USB Loader GX. Thanks guys.

It should work as long as the USB drive is formatted to FAT32 with 32KB clusters, although some older homebrew will only work properly from SD.

In the Homebrew Channel, just press 1 on the Wiimote to bring up the menu where you can set it to the USB drive.

I guess I am wondering why you would want to boot from USB in the first place. All of the homebrew apps are small enough to fit on an SD card.

Yeah, and at this point most of us probably have stacks of 4, 8 and 16 GB cards lying around after upgrading to bigger ones. SD cards have gotten super cheap lately.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
