I'm afraid you can equally say that about people who gobble up films by Mark Durkin, or believe the impression the media gives that there's some kind of 50-50 split about if mankind contributes to global warming or not in peer reviewed scientific studies. There's certainly a much higher percentage people blabbering on about "Ooh, we don't really know, nothing actually shows human produced CO2 effects the climate, I heard it probably doesn't" in circles of celebrities, journalists, film makers and college kids than there is amongst actual respected scientists.

Saying that the length of time humans have been on earth has any bearing on how much we know about past climates indicates very little knowledge of the research involved.

First off I don't even know who Mark Durkin is and if the media was biased towards one point of view it would be that global warming is man made. Every time I switch on the TV I hear CO2 levels this and raping the environment that.

As for peer reviewed scientific papers I can cite you a few if you are really interested. The length of time humans have been on earth does determine how much we understand on past events, the earth's climate is dynamic(yes again) and fluctuates too much for us to claim that we have completely understood its complex patterns in such a short time. Thats why we study ice cores to see if our current climate model fits past trends.

Im not some neo-con hell bent on smearing global warming, im just a person like you looking for the truth based on empirical evidence and if that truth happens to clash with public opinion well thats the publics problem.

I definitely believe humans have been fucking with the environment and are the main cause of elevated CO2 levels, im just asking if CO2 levels are the real cause of global warming.

You're perfectly entitled to think that. Every time I turn on the TV I hear at the end of every report on it "...But some people don't believe blah blah". If you've arrived at this conclusion by actually looking at data and scientific reports, more power to you. But there's so many kiddies who watch a few youtube vids, read a few blogs, see a flash cartoon developed by Exxon but made to look like grassroots activism against the global warming 'scam' (Similar to Sony's "all I want for Christmas campaign) and suddenly they're an authority on the subject and know more than the world's leading scientists and peer reviewed studies. From then on they think that by sticking it to the 'man' on global warming they're Che fucking Guevara.

Durkin, by the way, made the "Great Global Warming Swindle" documentary, with his merry gang of mentalists from Living Marxism magazine, which was duely gobbled up by everyone in spite of being unadulterated bollocks like his previous a films such as "GM food - if you have any reservations, you're a Nazi" "Environmentalists eat children" and "If you don't get silicon breast implants you're going to die of cancer" Indeed several of the scientists he showed as his supporters and voices of dissent amongst the egg-head community are now suing him and he's being hauled before the regulators again for telling naughty porkies.

The thing that gets me is how many people claim to be agreeing with each other on the matter when they're not actually agreeing at all. Some say CO2 doesn't cause global warming, some say it does but hardly any of it comes from man, some say the earth is heating cos of the sun, some that it's not heating at all. One of the global warming denier's biggest heros doesn't even believe in the greenhouse effect - which means non of us exist and we're floating around on a huge block of ice

Like I said, I hate assholes who believe in crap without looking at facts.

I hate both the pushy environmental assholes(Im looking at you gore and your private jet) and the republicans/energy companies, both of them have one thing in common, an agenda. They don't give a crap if what they are saying is right, what matters is that people believe them and that they can rake in some more money.

I believe the IPCC looked at facts. I believe that the much of the "OMG Climate change hoax!!!" camp is made up of teenage oiks who simply parrot non-entity arguments like "There's not enough data!" when there's absolutely terrabytes of data on changing climate. Confusingly, often while mixing in "The data shows that the earth isn't heating/that there's not enough carbon to make a difference/that the heating is part of a natural cycle" - data that wasn't enough to make any kind of judgement on one post or even one paragraph ago.

I agree there's not much point in arguing about it though - it's similar to debating with creationists on evolutionary theory

Well I've kinda changed my mind on this, it was a good idea as quite a lot of people I know are doing little steps like turning tellys off standby, but I still think its was crapply done. Did they really need all of those lights on? Don't care if they were solar they were still lights that were not needed in daylight.

The music was mostly abysmal for me, I did catch Bloc Party, Foo Fighters and Metallica they were good but lost interest so I just watched Blackadder for the rest of the day.
