So as u probably know the newest switch update (4.0.0) supports Gamecube Controllers through the official gc controller adapter. Which is arguably the best nintendo controller ever made. Here is a list containing details on its compatibility with each game. The controller is missing a shoulder, minus and home button as well as a capture button and clickable analog sticks. Decided to make a list on which games fully support it and workarounds. Contribute if u can by posting the name of the game and details regarding its playability.

100 % Playable

  • Sonic Mania
  • Fire Emblem Warriors (ZL Guard can be remapped and other buttons as well)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Stardew Valley
  • Fast RMX
  • Pokken Tournament DX
  • Shantae 1/2 Genie

Not Fully playable

  • Splatoon 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

Playable:
Steamworld dig 2
Every neo-geo game
Mario+rabbids: kingdom battle (using the Dpad to change character or just z)
Every game that can remap buttons and doesn't need all of them

Unplayable:
Dragonball xenoverse 2 (can't use ultimates)
Mario odissey (99% sure it will be unplayable)

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe completely playable, and I believe the controls are mapped differently (instead of using the trigger for gas you press A)

I don't see the need for this list. The controller works the same regardless of the game, so all you need to know is what buttons the controller is missing. And BoTW is not "unplayable", it's just harder to play.

iirc, you lose the ability to throw weapons or open the map.

Personally I think saying Stardew is "100% playable" is stretching it. I'd love a list where we judge playability by ACTUALLY using it to play, not that it's just "enough".

You'll have to scroll like a fucking madman through your items one step to the right all the time. The total time you're just standing around switching items is absolutely horrendous with a GC controller, sadly.

genuine question, how does the Switch recognize the Gamecube L, R, and Z buttons, are they L, R, and ZR respectively (despite R and ZR being opposite of where they are on the Switch) or are L, R, and Z recognized as LZ, RZ, and R respectively?

GameCube L > Switch L
GameCube R > Switch R
GameCube Z > Switch ZR

There is no ZL.

You're right, I'd gotten so used to the controls that I forgot about that lol

That still doesn't render it unplayable though, technically
Yeah, you can play it fairly well. Just good luck having any sort of defense haha. The GC controller feels just perfect for BOTW, hope they have a GC Pro-Controller to accomodate the lack of buttons. Those Wii Nunchuk GC controllers would be a good base.

seems like mario odyssey is %90 playable you can't do the motions but i've been playing for an hour and a half all the motions have been optional so far.
ZL and ZR are both the same thing in this game so not having two Z's doesn't affect it whatsoever.

Guess i just wanted a go to in case anyone doesnt want to test or simply does not have the game, and is thinking about purchasing the game based on gc controller functionality lolXD...........

I believe Mario Odyssey is fully supported (excluding motion controls). In options you can map the map button to up on the dpad.

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
