Hello !

Have You ever bought same game twice (or more) ? What was the reason of it? Here is my list:

Darkest dungeon - bought twice (PC, Xbox one)

I played it on early access and was amazed... the atmosphere, gameplay and difficulty makes this game 10/10 for me. PC version was choosen for mods, but im more console player so i want it on Xbox also. Sadly there is no android port, but now i have switch so i plan to buy it for it to play it remotely. Yeah i know there is streaming option on Xbox but for me its not the best experience.

Banner Saga - bought it three times (PC,Android,Xbox one)

Im huge tactical rpg fan so i decided to check banner saga. First of all i bought Banner saga 1 on pc, the story and decision making is cool addiction to tactical rpg aspect. Ending of first saga gave me goosebumps, its great one of the best in whole video game history. Second one i bought for android because low price and handheld aspect but first one is much better than second. When Trilogy edition was announced i decided to pick it up for Xbox.

Rocket League - ok this one i bought once but have it on every system i have (PS4,PC,Xbox one, Switch)

Rocket League was free for ps plus subscribers so i decided to pick it up. My first thought was what a stupid idea... mini cars plays football, but after couple of matches with my Bro it become my favorite ps4 title and we played it almost every day. PC version was the one that i actually paid for, im hoping for cool mods from steam workshop and to play it online without any monthly subscription. Xbox one version i picked up for 4 player split screen when it was added to gamepass, and Switch version to just play it everywhere because now its free to play. It really fun game but hard to master.

The Witcher 3 (Xbox one, Switch)

One of my favorite games of all the time. On Xbox i bought it on sale with all dlc. Music, Story, Fighting and GWENT, this game is just so perfect, the only concern is framerate drops but i can live with that. When switch port was announced i was just like NO WAY, its not possible. But i was wrong Switch port is amazing and is must have game for this system. I enjoyed it much more on Switch than on Xbox.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Same story as the Witcher 3

Sorry for some broken English, im still learning this language :)

Tbf I don't really know.
I've bought plenty of games twice or trice tho I suppose that GTA SA takes the crown.
I got that game on pretty much every platform it supports.

Tetris, Tetris DX, Dr. Mario for Game Boy:
  • Each one twice for playing with Link Cable
Shadow Man:
  • PS1 → Sounds good, looks bad
  • N64 → Looks better, sound baaaad
  • Dreamcast → Looks good, sounds good
Day of the Tentacle:
  • CD version for MS-DOS
  • Remastered on GOG
Tomb Raider IV:

Technically each Pokemon game up to Sun/Moon since the two editions are more or less the same games with altered probabilities for the Pokemon (and minor differences in newer games).

Probably missed a few. Got most of the duplicates very cheap. All consoles at least twice for redundancy and preservation.

Shadowgate - NES
bought again as Shadowgate Classic on the gameboy color
reason: I originally started Shadowgate in German as a 10 year old Dutch kid. I was at the cusp of completing the game, but didn't quite know why I got stuck... Some 8 years later it was possible to get a walkthrough to help me along one minor step... this time in English...
(press OPEN on a hidden compartment thingy, not USE) after which I could waltz right through to get to the final steps to finally finishing the game.

The Witcher 3 (PC, PS4) because im a huge modding enthusiast i couldnt stop me from modding the game on pc and more times then not this lead to crashes or the game wouldnt even start anymore. so i thought if i wanna finally play the game i have to play it on console. and it worked. Though i miss some of the mods.

Starcraft(4 times on pc) well what can i say, in times where the keys would be written on the cd case if you lost the case you lost the game

Diablo 2 (3 times on pc) wanted to play with friends who couldnt afford the game

Dark Cloud, Dark Chronicle and Rogue Galaxy (PS2 and PS4) well i wanted to play the games again

SAO: Fatal Bullet (PS4, PC) Realized that its nearly impossible to play a shooter on console without getting the urge to gouge my own eyes out.

Final Fantasy X /X2 (PS2/PS4) wanted to play it again

Final Fantasy VII (PSX, PS4, Steam) What can i say, its the best

Chrono Trigger (Importet for SNES, PSX, NDS) Its hands down one of the best RPG there ever was. Would love a good remake

Darksiders II (PC, PS4) Got it on PS Plus

.Hack GU series (PS2, PS4) Well on PS4 there was one whole new game for it though it sucked

erm...I presume this is without taking bundles into account?
*last giveaway I gave away a few dozens of games I had twice or more :P *

Let's see...
* rollercoaster tycoon: not sure if it was twice or three times on disc, but since then it has increased even more (yup: steam bundle)
* original C&C: still have the original disk (same for red alert, though there are some illegally copied disks in the expansions), recently bought EA's remake
* Duke Nukem 3D. Can't remember which version I originally bought, but got a beefed up one later
* dead cells: have it on PC, bought it for mobile as well

Most likely a whole lot more. I seldomly buy individual games, though. Especially when I already have it on another platform somewhere...

hmm, I think there are a few.
The one I remember, and their reason :

Fez :
first bought on Gog, but I don't like playing on PC so I never completed it.
re-bought a year later on PS4 in hope to play it again, never happened.

The Witcher 3
bought on PS4, played 1H.. realized it would be nice to play 1 and 2 first.
bought the trilogy on gog.... never played. (never will ... it's on PC and I play only on consoles)

Ni no Kuni
PS3 : unplayed yet, still want to complete the NDS version first.
PS4 remastered (unplayed .. too). bought on sales, but that way I won't have to take out my PS3 the day I want to play it. I'll be able to play on PS4/5.

Horizon :
PS4 disc at release day. played only 1h...
PS4 digital full DLC version, because ... there were a sale and it costed less than buying DLC separately for the disc version ! haha, and having digital is easier, no need to swap disc anymore.

Uncharted Collection:
Bought the disc bundled with PS4 console
got it for free for covid like most people. so, it's not really bought twice, and it's not like I bought a game I already owned, but the other way.

Oh, I thought I would have more games listed here.
I guess, most of the games I bought but felt like "buying it again" are the one I actually "finally bought" after pirating and completing them years ago, and giving my thanks to the developers now.
Buying the one I played and already completed could look stupid, but not as much as buying the same game twice without even playing it once haha
I feel like finally owning it. (even though now it's more like owning a right to play than the game itself...)

Edit:

Free games I put money into :

Path of exile : PS4, probably put 50-80€ in it. buying useful features (more storage space), no cosmetic or avatar or unless appearance, nor random gatcha.
Again, loving the game and feeling like developers owed that much of money from me. it's the "normal price" for any other game I would have bought, no more.
