I am having a issue installing Linux Mint over my existing hard drive first I click the install icon

View attachment 192237
and then I select the language

View attachment 192238
and then I select the keyboard layout

and then I check the extra applications box

Now this is where the issue happens

a click of Install Now results in this error

and a click of the + - or Change... buttons results in a crash

is there a way to solve this problem I have done extensive research on this issue but to no avail thanks to anyone who has a suggestion
grab your important files off of the boot drive, use live usb to mount disk and grab them then use parted to format it clean, leave it unformatted. then use the live usb to install to that boot drive. That happened to me, a bad block or something, but it seemed to have worked.

Would you know a way to modify a HDD with Gparted I have watched several YouTube videos and they all use partitions created from the original HDD parition on my PC has a little key icon rendering it unmodifiable thanks

Well it seems that I cannot partition my HDD if it has not been partitioned already

Ah, reading comprehension lol. He could also try pxeboot if he has another PC.

I was wondering if you would be willing to help me with a issue I am having I am trying to partition my hard drive and after following a guide on the internet I deleted my entire hard drive and now I am trying to repart it again but it will not allow me I am thinking about rebooting my PC but I think that will wipe my system and from what I understand I have to make a tiny partition for linux and a large partition for my files I was wondering if you can just boot Linux onto one large partition

So would make a 4gb ext4 partition at the beginning of the harddrive with gparted. Then use UNetbootin to install your live iso to the 4gb partion. Boot into the OS and install linux to the other partition.

Okay thank you if I reboot my PC with a blank hard drive will it function properly ? or will it crash thanks

Did you install the live iso in the first partition? If you did not install it then yes your computer will not boot after restarting.

Okay restoring hard drive now I will install the iso file of Gparted thanks for clarifying

Not trying to be a dickhead or anything here, but it seems you are trying to do an advanced/customized install of a Linux distribution without any background/experience in it (and maybe computing in general).

This is a recipe for disaster. You really need to know what you are doing if you want to start messing with this stuff, as it gives you full control - even if that means bricking your own system (as you seem to be finding out).

My advice would be to just install a generic desktop image of Ubuntu and then use it for a few months to get familiar with the environment. Then come back and consider whatever it is you are trying to do now.

Okay just to clarify when I run this iso file of Gparted I need to create one small partition and then leave the rest allocated space? or should I have one small parition and one big parition

No, I meant the application of gparted, not the live distro.

I do have the application of Gparted

Again, you should use the gparted application from your package manager. Not the ISO.
