Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

- Switch Next
- 400€ (350 isn't sustainable anymore due to inflation)
- A 3D Zelda game on launch (imo 6 years for an half baked TOTK is definitely hiding something)
- Virtual reality as a gimmick -> Console in your hand and wired to the VR helmet
- Crappy and overpriced joycon+

  • Name: this one is a bit of a gamble as it could be named anything really like you guys said, but i'll go with either "the Nintendo Switch 2" or "the New/Super Nintendo Switch".
  • Launch Price: somewhere between $399 to $449 no more no less. If i had to guess a specific price i'll go with the former.
  • Launch window/titles: somewhere in Q1/Q2 2025, March/April or even May/June release. As for titles, some Mario or LoZ game, be it a new release or some Switch port/version.
  • Any other predictions : nothing much, pretty sure Nintendo won't try anything too out of the ordinary regarding gimmicks and hardware, and they certainly would want to keep it just like it is right now with the Switch. They could release two models one purely portable (like the Switch Lite) and one that could be both docked & portable. The portable version could be less $49 to $99 than the docked one. They know their market very well so that might actually happen. Oh, and i think it'll come with full BC with the current Switch, as for whether there'd be a physical Switch cartridge slot on the Switch 2? I say yes, same for digital versions where you link your account to download your purchased games. However, i can't tell you whether this "feature" will be free from the get-go or partially locked behind some subscription service. say like you can only play a certain amount of your Switch games and of you want more you have to pay, and of course the system keep logs of what you're playing etc.

Considering I didn't buy my Switch until a year later, due to lack of interesting games and initial distrust of the JoyCons (the Switch marketing made 'em seem like an unfortunate return to the Wii era, with forced motion controls perhaps being a thing - luckily, this wasn't the case)...yeah, I might wait a while to buy a Switch 2.

I'd like some good games out first, and if all goes well even the beginnings of homebrew.

I hope there's an Astral Chain 2 for Switch. That was one of the best games of this gen IMO. But then again Platinum Games doesn't make a lot of sequels.

PS5 Pro vs the Nintendo Switch 2
At least nintendo has something to offer for that price... they don't even have to go over the top. they could just give it 20 MHz extra and a MB extra ram and maybe make the internal resolution 1080p nothing fancy and it will still be worth it way more than the PS5 pro.

I totally agree. Nintendo will most certainly make actual adjustments to the hardware, such as an upgraded CPU with faster clock speeds, extra RAM, and maybe 4K (if they haven't added it yet). Would be worth more to spend it on that.

It's probably going to be $400, the Switch was $300 at launch, so $400 seems reasonable with inflation taken into account. And the base PS5 is currently what, $450? I would expect Nintendo to price it lower than the PS5, especially considering it will have last gen specs as always, pricing it the same or higher than the base PS5 wouldn't be competitive.

Personally, I would easily pay $500 if it meant somewhat current specs, but we all know that won't be the case. If they dare to price it at $500 despite weak specs, it will sell poorly and a price drop will be imminent anyway, it'll end up a repeat of the 3DS.

Release date is expected to be around Autumn 2025, in time for the Christmas season. They usually make big releases around October so it would probably be between September and November, or December at the latest.

I don't have high expectations for the launch titles, but I'm hoping for a new Mario Kart (we haven't had one in way too long) and a new Pokemon game is almost a guarantee, since Game Freak have stopped doing their yearly mainline release they no doubt are saving the next games for the Switch 2. I'm not expecting much from those games, it'll probably just end up being Black/White remakes with the same old engine they used on the Switch with slightly improved visuals and better framerates, or, perhaps more interesting, a sequel to Legends Arceus. Hopefully with the extra time they've at least ironed out the bugs and jank that were present in Scarlet/Violet.

A new Mario Kart would be enough to make it a day 1 purchase for me if it also has backwards compatibility with Switch with improved performance. I feel like I can't enjoy Zelda TotK on real hardware because I've been spoiled by how much better it runs in emulators which is a shame.

Name - Switch Plus
Launch price - $400 (i dont think it will be more expensive than this because then they would be competing with ps5)
Release date - March 17th, 2025
Launch titles - New 3d Mario, a pretty third party game that showcases the more powerful graphics, mario kart 9, and possibly a new f zero
Any other predictions - based on past things that nintendo does with their more successful products, such as wii to wii u, they will have backwards compatibility and they will still sell the old switch, possibly at a cheaper price, and games alongside the Switch Plus and its games. i dont think there will be any sort of a crazy gimmick for the switch plus but you never know with nintnedo.

I would love Nintendo Switch 2 if have more features and more faster load time speed than regular old Nintendo Switch.

Name: I think should be "Nintendo Switch 2" or "Super Nintendo Switch". Just my guess.

Launch Price: About $399.99. If any supply chain shortages / crisis would cause price skyrocket between $449.99 to $499.99.

Launch window/titles: About somewhere in Q1 / Q2 2025, March / April 2025 or even May / June 2025 if any hardware supply chain shortages will cause delay more few months to push after. For new game titles like Super Mario Bros Wild World or Super Mario Bros Switch 2 or Super Mario Bros. Wonder 2 or Super Mario Bros. Corrupt World, Super Mario Odyssey 2, Super Mario Maker 3, Super Mario Galaxy 3, The Legend of Zelda: Corrupt Hyrule or The Legend of Zelda: World of Hyrule. Also some remake / remastered of Nintendo Wii U and Switch ports. Some maybe have super hot biggest video games for crazy to surprise everyone! :D

Any other predictions: Not really much. Just have USB 3.2 ports (up to 10 Gbps), ethernet port and microSD slot (support up to 2 TB microSD card). If Nintendo Switch 2 maybe have NVMe slot in back system where motherboard allow us to add SSD for storage to store more games, etc on. It should have digital versions same like on Switch. About subscription service will have all Retro Nintendo games like NES up to Nintendo Wii U, GameBoy up to Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS. I heard other company like Epic games, GOG, Steam, etc maybe will bring more like PC games port to Nintendo Switch 2 in near future would be big excite news for all of us and people. Nintendo Switch 2 will have physical Switch cartridge slot for backward compatible. It could have both docked and portable just like Nintendo Switch in same way. Nintendo Switch 2 should have more faster CPU clock speed, upgraded RAM to 12 GB (about 3 times over Nintendo Switch), improve Nvidia GPU video card had Ray tracing (include DLSS 3.0) support just like Nvidia RTX 3000 series family can make video game running more smooth faster solid 60 FPS and bigger storage like 256 GB or more for system operating system upgrade like firmware versions, digital games, game saved data (if include backup and restore) and more. Nintendo Switch 2 should able to support any HDTV and any computer monitors which have support 1080p or 1440p (2K) or 4K (3840 x 2160).

B-) :yay:

  • Name - Gotta go with the leaked Attach name.
  • Launch price (base model) - 399
  • Release date - Next year, 2025. Maybe half year in.
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Mario of course, some port from a popular Switch game and I'm guessing a Resident Evil game ported like RE7, 8 or even maybe 2 Remake.
