Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

Prizes:

For this Community Contest, whoever gets the most accurate predictions (name, launch price, date, titles and features) - closest to the actual official info will win the following awarded to their GBAtemp account:

Also wouldn't be shocked to see a new mainline 3D Mario at some point early on since Odyssey was the last one in 2018
The more I think about it, yeah you’re right, considering the new console releases next year, that’s also the 40th Anniversary of Mario so maybe Nintendo has hidden a new game to celebrate (if it’s not another collection hopefully) and to coincide with the console, similar to Mario Odyssey and the switch where that game demonstrated tons of the console’s gimmicks, but as a launch title to first 3 months is still a stretch to me, but for sure somewhere near the end of the year or summer 2026 (considering how long games gets published)

Name: Nintendo Super Switch (Many people predict this name but I honestly don't know what to put anymore)
Launch price (for base model): 400-500 USD (but I think 500 is more likely)
Release date: April 15, 2025
Launch titles: New Super Mario, later ports of Zelda TP and WW
Other predictions: Full backwards compatibility with Switch, new emulators for Wii and Gamecube, better battery life, 4K TV output with dock that enhances device performance, new themes, better performance overall

  • Name - Swiitch (double "i" like the Wii) or Switch Advanced
  • Launch price (base model) - 499.99
  • Release date - 15/02/2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) - 1,2,Switch! Enhanced, New Super Mario Bros. Advanced, Mario Kart X
  • Any other predictions - Backwards compatibility with older Switch models, return of Virtual Console for even more games, Certain PC games will try having a Switch Advanced version due to the specs being closer to a mid-range computer. A "Lite" version will be available, with the same constraints as the Switch Lite. Better overall battery, OS shouldn't differ a lot than the previous Switch model (DS/DSi as an example).

I can see the Switch successor having a pro model for a much higher price. Sony just set the new norm as far as prices for pro models.

  • Name - Nintendo Attach
  • Launch price (base model) - $450
  • Release date - March 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) -
    1. Mario Kart X (10) will launch day 1 with new switch, just like botw did for original switch.
    2. Metroid prime 4 - Late April or early May
    3. Some kind of tech demo "game" to show off new features of console, 1-2 switch equivalent for new system

  • Any other predictions -
    1. New joycons (and other accessories) will attach via magnet, hence name "switch attach"
    2. Dock will not have components in it to boost visuals on TV, rather new switch itself will use Nvidias DLSS and/or frame gen to boost visuals close to 4K, like how PS4 did checkerboard rendering which was not true 4K but came somewhat close.
    3. will def be backwards compatible, not sure if "next gen update" for older games will be locked behind paywall though.
    4. Dock may be open faced, and whenever you have new switch docked and not using it will display clock with Nintendo themes, like they did with re-release of game & watch
    5. LCD will be 900p (because it's nintendo I can't help but to think it will always be just a bit underpowered the "nintendo way")

Alright, here goes:

  • Name - Switch Up. Total shot in the dark but I think it's about as realistic as any of Nintendo's other names
  • Launch price (base model) - £329.99
  • Release date - US release date will be 18th August 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window) - I think it'll launch with Splatoon 4, Pokemon Legends Z-A, and BotW/TotK Remastered.
  • Any other predictions - Backwards compatible, comes with a redesigned dock with better air cooling, and has an OLED screen as standard. Total wild card danger guess: no amiibo support.

Name "Switch up" sounds very real, good prediction

Nintendo switcher

It’ll be AMD custom APU
Better built in controller thumb sticks
They will use a lcd so they can sell us a oled later
It’ll be $450 because Nintendo is gonna be Nintendo
It's already been confirmed to have a NVidia chipset (unless Nintendo is secretly making another console)

- Nintendo Switch Advanced/ “new” Nintendo Switch
- probably $399
- most likely outdated specs, stays on same chip architecture, no more than 4 gb of ram
- could update old switch games to “enhanced” when played on new switch
- Launches with Zelda: BoTW remastered
- hopefully hall effect joysticks, but probably not.
- 4k resolution on tv, if not :gun:
- releases no later than mid-2025

Nintendo Switch 2 (Or Nintendo Switch: Second Model).

$349.99.

Console Launch timing: (A thursday)
March 13th, 2025

Launch titles:
Metroid Prime 4 (running better on the next console).
New 3D Mario (Switch 2 exclusive, using the impulse of the Mario Movie to reach a larger audience and sell more of the successor).

Other guesses:
[I do not think a new Mario Kart would be coming so soon. 2026 may be a good year for Mario Kart]. Pokemon Legends Z-A is a bit puzzling to me, not sure if it is a 2025 end of year launch.

GameCube for Switch Online 4 games at launch:
Super Mario Sunshine.

Mario Kart Double Dash!! (PLEASE)
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure.

Kirby Air Ride.

Fully backwards compatible with Switch original model.

Super Switch (from my source this is absolutely 100% the final name)
$399
March 20th 2025
Launches with Super Mario 64 sequel (new mainline 3D Mario game), TOTK HD, Metroid Prime 4, and F-Zero 4

Probably uses similar Arm Cortex Awhatever CPUs, but Xavier GPU on Samsung 5nm.

Storage probably still starts at like 64gb haha

Not reading any comments, going straight to the reply text box. After my thought I will read them.

It would be cool if they named the new Switch 'Super Switch' just like with Nintendo and Super Nintendo or Famicom and Super Famicom.

The price of the Super Switch would be around 400 dollars/euros if they want to have a success like the Switch.

Nintendo will not make any handhelds or consoles separately. The 3DS was their last handheld. They will focus on hybrids which is cheaper and had better focus for the company.

Apparently it's 400 MSRP
$ I guess, but I hope it's 400€ because 500€ would be way too much. I hope they don't take example on Sony who just doesn't give a flying fuck about Europe apparently. I don't understand why they've chosen to have such prices in Japan and EU and not US. Probably because Xbox has more market share in the US ?
