Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

Prizes:

For this Community Contest, whoever gets the most accurate predictions (name, launch price, date, titles and features) - closest to the actual official info will win the following awarded to their GBAtemp account:

It’ll be no more than $399.99. It, like Nintendo predecessors, will have inferior graphics compared to other current gen consoles. Definitely a step up from switch but, definitely nothing awe inspiring.

1) Switch+
2) $400
3) March 10 2025
4) Mario Kart 9, Splatoon 4, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem, Call of Duty and many other post-launch 3rd party titles.
5) Switch+ will essentially have the same basic design as Switch OLED but with improved Joycons that are bigger and easier to grip. Backwards compatible with some older games updated to run better. The dock will be redesigned and will output 4k. It will have its own Supersampling that will blow everyone away. There will be a VR device meant to be a true competitor. Some kind of minor partnership with Xbox.

It has already been leaked that the new Nintendo console will cost $400 at launch.

I believe it has 2 screens. One of the screen can be detached and attached using strong magnet. This allows the detached screen to be use like a Wii U tablet that wirelessly communicates with the docked unit. It's the only way for dual screens function to work when playing on a TV.

In portable mode, it will be similar to the DS - with both screens attached. Hence the rumor that the new console will be named Nintendo "Attach".

Name: If we’re looking at previous Nintendo names, the new console is definitely gonna be something one worded, simple (Ex: Wii, Switch) and maybe something that tells the gimmick of the console (Ex: DS- Dual Screen. 3DS- 3D. Switch- Switch from home console to handheld) I don’t know what gimmick the new console is, it sounds likes it’s just an enhanced switch, so there is a chance they might go a safe route and call it “switch 2” or some suggestive ideas, “Nintendo Fusion” “Nintendo Dual” “Nintendo Unite” “Nintendo Beyond” “Nintendo Frontier”

Base Price: The switch is still gonna be in the market for a few more years, so it can’t be 300, nor 350 since the OLED (unless there’s a future discount) so definitely somewhere $400-450. Cheaper than the PS5 for competition sakes and not too expensive so the demographic audience can still afford eventually (Teens/young adults)

Release Date" Mid 2025 or fall (In time for holidays), if we're getting an announcement next year, if not then I hope somewhere around April, mid spring right until a summer boom sales

Launch Titles: I still strongly believe that Metroid Prime 4 is a cross gen title, and will be one of the Switch 2 launch Titles, but it won't be the only one since it ain't the most recognizable IP, so most likely some port of a Mario or Zelda game we hadn't seen. (Wind waker HD *Wink wink* and NSMB I guess) then an original game from them later the same year, and maybe a brand new original title similar to 1-2 Switch, maybe it could be free in the home menu. Pokémon Legends Z-A is highly likely as well as hopefully the rumored Mario Baseball

Other Predictions:
- 128-256 gb storage
- LCD Screen
- 4k resolution tv mode (It's starting to become common now)
- Backwards compatibility (No shit)
- Ethernet Port
- Customizable Rumble Settings
- Improved dock where you can adjust the plug ins (Similar to that one patent)

Honestly out of all of the posts this is the closest to what I think. Though I wouldn't bet on 4K. Also wouldn't be shocked to see a new mainline 3D Mario at some point early on since Odyssey was the last one in 2018

Semi custom ARM chip based on Tegra Orin 8GB Soc: six cores of A78AE, up to 2 GHz. 1280x800 resolution. Launch variants: a lite version with LCD for $400 (no charger included), OLED model with dock and maybe joycons: $520.

Name should be the "Switcheroo", or the "Bait and" or "Switch U". But it'll probably just be the Switch Evolution or something just as lame
Post automatically merged:

Maybe the "Switch Up". Got a nice ring

After their disaster with Wii U I’d like to think they will be sensible and call it Switch 2 (but this IS Nintendo, so I’m not ruling out Nintendo Entertainment System Next :rofl2:).
Im half expecting a Friday March 7th 2025 release date at a MSRP of 399.99
As for games, I fully expect Metroid Prime 4 to be a launch game, along with the next 3D Mario title and probably a couple of remasters.

Beyond that, this will be the system when they finally listen to their fans and release new F-Zero, Waverace and 1080 games. Personally I’m hoping for F-Zero or Waverace to be a launch window game, filling in for Mario Kart 9, which will no doubt be a holiday season release. After murmuring of the Oracle’s remasters, they’ll probably show up on Switch 2, maybe not at launch, but soon after.

I also seriously hope they’ve learned their lessons and use Hall effect sticks, slap a proper D-Pad on there and add analogue triggers.
I’m expecting a slight increase in system size, with larger, more comfortable controllers (the flat Joy Cons are hardly ergonomic), a Mini LED display and full backwards compatibility. I’m hoping, though not holding my breath, that they finally get online done properly on the next system, I mean c’mon, using your mobile as an in-between? Ffs.

When someone came up with the idea for this topic, I hope they also considered what an unbelievably painful slog it's going to be to go through the hundreds of posts over the next 9 months.
