Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

Name - Nintendo Switch 2
Launch price (base model) - $399.99 USD base model
Release date - approx March 2025 if announced by end of 2024, Q3 / Q4 if announced in 2025.
Launch titles - cross-gen Metroid Prime 4. Enhanced and improved BOTW and/or TOTK. New Mario title. New gimmick title because it's Nintendo.
Any other predictions - It won't have a lot of the changes people want it to have. I don't expect a substantially different system interface, eShop etc. from the original. Same Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. I think the Joy-Cons probably won't attach by the railing system this time. Base model will be LCD to spite me specifically. Nintendo will allow for next-gen upgrades to Switch 1 games and do some of their own. Games for Switch/Switch 2 can be on the same cart instead of requiring separate releases (like Xbox, unlike PlayStation)

Just in it for the prophetic nature that I totally have an not just throwing random ideas out there in an attempt to win whatever was at the top of the page that I totally remember and....

name, launch price, date, titles and features

It's gonna be the NEW Nintendo Switch, fuck no they did that, Switch NX, nah that'd be stupid, Switch One? Nah, I'm going with Switch Pro model even though I'd kinda hate rather than having another random letter added like Switch U.

It's gonna be a cool $350 in North America, to be expected to release March 20, 2025( crazier things have happened on that day, time to top it ), releasing with at least two first party titles, most likely the newest Mario game, and some other demo game like 1-2 Switch or the like, although bring back Wii Play because that was some good shit( mainly the Tank game ). And finally it will feature a decent bit more performance( via new architecture that allows for upscaling ), same cartridges used to play games so backwards compatible, and a 1600x1024 or whatever that general vertical res is. And with the launch of the new Switch, Nintendo will finally give what we've been waiting for and introduce actual Gamecube Virtual Console Lite( Switch Online )!

If it doesn't have some amazing next gen feature, I bet it won't be too expensive. Maybe $400 like others say. $400 is a lot, but it will sell out anyway, Nintendo will have some must have comes launching with it.

Too expensive. Too underpowered. The least amount of creativity. Tons of laziness. And games people have already played before and are tired of but Nintendo is too lazy to have creativity and make games more interesting. Oh yes! Lots of their previous games just put on this console so they can squeeze a few more dollars out of you because they dont know how to make games anymore.

The switch itself was pretty amazing. But they really messed up without giving it the 3D experience that the 3DS had. Just think how much more interesting the switch would have been if it had the capabilities of the 3DS with the games on switch.

450$ for switch 2 original set

550$ for premium mario set. (turn based mario game)

release date: winter season 2025

i think a separate thread for predicting the features it has would be good too. like preorder benefit: free mario design leash to walk your dog.

Umm.... I'm guessing $400 (A little over the current US price of the Switch OLED?) I doubt Nintendo will pull a Sony and charge us nearly $900 for something that's basically the same console. Looking at you, PS5 Pro!

In the case of the PS5, it's called the Concord tax

  • Name: Nintendo Super Switch - Not only is it a callback to the SNES, they will want to brand their enhanced backwards compatibility patches as "SUPER SWITCH MODE".
  • Launch price (base model): $399
  • Release date: March 28, 2025
  • Launch titles (launch window): Launch titles are a new 3D Mario, a port/remake of Nintendo Land (to show off the console streaming to the TV via the dock so that it can be played like a Wii U Gamepad), and a Nintendo-published port of Cyberpunk 2077 (Nvidia's golden boy rn). Also a new multiplayer-focused Star Fox launching a month or two after, as well as Call of Duty Warzone. 3rd parties will be a MAJOR focus this generation. Finally rounded out with a new Zelda BOTW physical release containing all DLC + option for Super Switch Mode patch (cart can still be played on Switch 1).
  • Any other predictions: Will be slightly better than Steam Deck but with a much better battery in portable mode, and around Xbox Series S territory when docked. Will go all in on DLSS as well as some Ray Tracing. Metroid Prime 4's Super Switch Mode will enable Ray Tracing, to promote it as a cross-gen title.
