Let's Guess: Switch 2 launch price and offering

Switch 2 mockup with question marks

With a Switch 2 reveal hopefully on the horizon, the question is how much will Nintendo ask for the base model at launch and what will their launch offerings be?

Analysts have previously predicted that the Switch 2 will be somewhat of an iterative upgrade, which would be unlike Nintendo's past strategies that famously involved a radical new approach such as the dual screen Nintendo DS, Wii with its motion controls as well as the dual screen Wii U to name just a few. But if we know Nintendo then we're sure there will be a curve ball somewhere in the mix!

While an initial price of $400 USD was also previously estimated, the recent surge in component prices as well as the general cost of living; could we perhaps be looking at at $450-500 USD handheld from Nintendo?

Also, what of the launch titles and offerings? How will Nintendo sell and promote the Switch 2? What games will be available at launch? Will we see a new Mario title ready for launch or perhaps Metroid Prime 4 with Switch 2 enhancements? These are all questions that we're eager to know the answer to.

To take a look back; the Switch released back in March of 2017 at a suggested MSRP $299.99 in the United States, £279.99 in the United Kingdom, and $469.95 in Australia with similar regional pricing across EU regions. It launched alongside the critically acclaimed TLOZ: BOTW as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a month later with other heavy hitters such as Super Mario Odyssey coming later that same year. It was a hugely successful launch but was plagued with supply issues, scalpers following the huge demand. The success of the Switch helped bounce Nintendo back to fame after the poorly received Wii U.

Contest:

Here's where you, the community come in! We want to hear your predictions for the Switch 2 - more specifically we want your predictions for the following:
  • Name - will it even be called the Switch 2? Nintendo are known for some pretty crazy naming schemes! Super Switch? Switcheroo? Switchy and Scratchy?
  • Launch price (base model) - guess the MSRP of the Switch 2 for the base console, standalone, no games
  • Release date - when will the Switch 2 launch in the USA?
  • Launch titles (launch window) - what games will Nintendo launch the Switch 2 alongside? (Let's keep this to a 3 month window from the release date)
  • Any other predictions - Go crazy and let us know what new features or gimmicks Nintendo will add to the Switch 2! Will there be full backwards compatibility? Will it include direct streaming to your TV without the need for docking? We want to hear your ideas!

Prizes:

For this Community Contest, whoever gets the most accurate predictions (name, launch price, date, titles and features) - closest to the actual official info will win the following awarded to their GBAtemp account:

Definitely 400€ (talking €, I hope they don't do like Sony and make it 100€ more expensive for no reason)
Wish it was 350€ tho, but people do seem to accept that price point so I don't see why Nintendo would go lower

I wish it was named Super Switch, but anything goes. It could genuinely be Switch 2 tbh ... (some say that this is literally the name, would be funny because that'd be an admission that the Wii U traumatized them so much, the lengths they'll go to make sure that people understand that this is NOT the Switch 1)

I don't see why Metroid Prime 4 Beyond wouldn't be available on release, with better resolution and that kind of stuff. I think that the BoTW tech demo was just a tech demo, I don't really see them re-releasing BoTW in 2025.

Talking about 2025, I expect a release in march. That worked pretty well for the Switch 1 and I remember back then, lots of people were wondering if the fact that they launched after the holidays would hurt their sales, but I guess that when a new console is expected, parents don't have much issues giving little Timmy an empty box with nothing but a card telling them « stay nice until march »

  • Name - Considering as iterative naming benefitted Nintendo with the WIi/Wii U situation, I assume they'll try to go with something different, so I'm placing my bet on Nintendo Switch Advance
  • Launch price (base model) - 399$
  • Release date - friday March 14 2024
  • Launch titles (launch window) - Pokémon Legends ZA, Mario Kart 9
  • Any other predictions - Thunderbolt-compatible dock for eGPU use.

Is this still going? Cause I want to see if I can make my guesses:

Name: I can't think of one
Launch Price (Base Model- 299-399 USD)
Release Date- Q4 2024 OR Q1-2 2025
Launch Titles- Brand new 1st party IP (or a port of one that adds features that utilize the new Switch successor's features)
Any other predictions: The device will be weaker than the Steam Deck, the device will look visually similar to the OLED Switch Model, and they will modernize the UI in terms of building on it's simplicity like the 3DS/WIIU.

About a week ago I had a weird dream where it was on stores and called the Nintendo Bypass (because you could stream the video to your TV, bypassing the need of the dock) xD
So I go with that name.
Price $419
Release date: 2025/04/10
Launch Titles: Metroid Prime 4, some Zelda and/or Mario port, something from Shin'en

I think it will still be called Switch but with some sort of qualifier like Pro or Enhanced. I'm not convinced there will be any gimmicks perhaps just a slightly different design. It will probably be announced in April/May and release in June/July 2025. As far as the price, it all depends if/when Nintendo halts production of the current Switch, but I'm expecting around £379. I really hope Metroid Prime 4 is a launch window title.
That price lol. When will people stop buying nintendos underpowered and overpriced consoles?
