Are you playing in an emulator like no$gba? If flashcart, of course make sure your firmware language is English (as well as your DS firmware).

If no$gba, it would be because the firmware settings default language is not English, but French (if I recall). Here is a method I did a while ago on a romsite which worked with a few people with this game particularly also.
