Okay, so I got bored, and I found some strange numbers on my camera.  After some testing, I found out that that's how long the shutter stays open.  I turned off the lights, grabbed a laser, and went to work... Or play for that matter.

I took a bunch of photography classes in high school where we used actual film and had to develop it ourselves. Leaving the shutter open for a second or two makes waterfalls look cool.

Open shutter + flash FTÜW (for teh über Win) [IMG]

You get the light effects of long shutter times, and the clarity and illumination of the flash, in one photo. Use a long shutter time, and flash somewhere in between. If your camera doesn't support that, use an external flash and trigger it manually. Just make sure you adjust the aperture so you don't get overexposure.
