League of Legends, a Dota clone MOBA, is pretty popular. Seriously, the game is popular to an almost stupid degree. Like, goddamn, it's more popular than puppies and ice cream (separate or together).

How popular are talking here? Well...

    :arrow:Forbes

Sorry, everybody else. You may be legends, but this is out of your league. (See, it's a joke, because I am using words from the title of the game in a different context.)

Seeing numbers like that, and looking at Riot's financial figures for 2013, it isn't hard to figure out why so many companies are jumping on the MOBA bandwagon as of late. From indies to juggernauts like Blizzard, there's a lot of money to be made here. The new phrase in the industry seems to be, "Mo' MOBA, mo' money."

    Presumably the problems come later.

    Riot make bucks.
So do all the most popular streamers and the professional players.

I'd much rather watch the EU LCS (league championship series) over most sports matches. E-Sports ftw
Except of course if Arsenal are in an important match

Still a shit MOBA compared to Smite.

Also does anyone else just read the quote in Gahars post and nothing else?
Saves my face from the wrath of my palm quite often.

and then theres me, who still can't grasp the concept of how people find this game so fun.
I mean I'll play it every now and then, but playing more than 2 games at once is too much, it just gets to repetitive, and it gets boring

This is kind of confusing me. is it 27m unique or just on and off players?
If unique, how does that equal to 67m? If not, why did they word it like this?
It goes from 27m non-unique to 67m unique without changing the wording?

That was me when I played the game for the first time 9 months ago and after 5 games I decided it sucked and quit playing it.
Then 4 months afterwards I gave it another chance and now I'm Silver II...

    Not really?
QFT. Except the Arsenal part, replace that with Manchester United!
Does it matter? No, not at all.
No, just no. You of course can have your opinion, but in general, LoL > everything else atm. So much content, so much fun, so much diversity and especially such an immersion. You can read/discuss about LoL all day long, you don't even need to search people who love the same game, there are just too many. Everywhere I go, I meet new LoL players, amazing.
I had the same idea, until I really started playing with friends, and learned the game together with them. Totally different experience really, and you learn so much quicker with 2 or more people. Less rage is always nice too of course ;)

And this news doesn't surprise me 1 bit. Did you know that more people play LoL than baseball (all leagues) in the USA. Daily

I guess LoL grew on me coz all my friends started at the same time as me. Also we started playing after finishing secondary school, in that long summer where nothing mattered ^_^

    Moyes

I guess I just prefer games that actually require some skill and not just knowledge of how the game works to be the best.
But hey we all have our preferences.
The community is a moot point for me. Sure it's nice but I really don't give a shit if I can super easily find people who play it or not, it's easy to find people who play any game.

Meh, you can't say lasthitting minions, map knowledge, and some champions doesn't require skill. Not to mention timing and just general reflexes.

Community is terrible, true. Nothing I can say about that, except play with friends.

LoL requires more skill than Smite. The only thing hard about smite is their weird controls.

It becomes boring if you play the same hero/champion. that's why in dota i almost always -random or when I don't, I rarely play the same hero twice in a row and never thrice.

I still dislike how slow champions move compared to dota heros though. Lol feels slow compared to dota 2.
