Good to hear that! A world without Nintendo is not a world I want to be a part of! And I think we all know they prob couldn't survive 2 flops in a row. Only thing that makes this slightly inflated is that the N64 retailed for $199 US and the Switch is $299. This is only 2 years in though, so still very very impressive.

Very impressive and those sales should go up with new games like Mario Maker 2 and Pokemon Sword/Shield on the horizon. Speaking of the Snes I hope we get those Snes online games at some point this year...

It's still fighting the 3ds a little so it's not time yet to do that.

Ah, but because of inflation, $199 in 1996 would be worth $325 in 2019.

If they can address the short battery life, they'll manage to re-sell at least half of these units all over again.

It's still hard for me to believe that the days of Nintendo having two systems are done. It makes sense for Nintendo, since they can put all their resources into beefing up the game library of the one system.

I just really like the dual screen aspect that the DS and 3DS brought to gaming. It really helped the experiences of RPG's and strategy games.

I couldn't agree more. I love the concept of the 3DS. The clamshell design makes that device what I wish Switch could be: the ultimate portable gaming machine. Pull it out of your pocket, play while on a train, fold it together and but it back in the pocket of your jeans. I'd love to see the successor to that.

Agreed, and not that I'd trade the Switch for it, but I miss the dual screen even on the Wii U. I do get why they didn't implement on the Switch though, since obv it has to be docked to output to the TV HDMI, where as the Wii U streamed video to the gamepad, not practical for how the Switch works at all, but the Switch's screen now feels wasted when playing on the TV. :glare:

Let's hope NERD writes the emulator, because it'd actually be good.

I suspect it's impossible for them to show different content on the two screens.

It should be possible to have a game where the players each use a switch and there is another one that is attached to the TV

True! Well we know Nintendo is good at exploring all of the possibilities (for stuff like that), so if that's possible I'm sure we'll see it eventually and can bet HD rumble will be involved. :D

When people tell that Nintendo won the console wars with the Super Nintendo they forget the fact that was only in the USA. And that the Sega Genesis keep being sold officially (thanks to a Brazil) and keep getting new games until the year 2000.

And in most of Europe the Sega Genesis was actually more popular that the Super Nintendo.

That being said, the Switch will be hard pressed to beat the Wii.

Just because I was bored I put up together some trashy graphic with sales of some consoles along their first 6 fiscal years:

    upload_2019-4-25_4-24-52.

Switch sales look good, but even with a (generous) linear estimation on further sales, it still falls behind the PS4 (also behind the PS1, and of course behind the fastest selling consoles PS2 and Wii).

I guess it might hit PS3/360 sale numbers at EoL... best case scenario.

To be fair the PS1 keep selling for a long time and keep getting games released even after the PS2 was out.

Heck from it's release on the 3 of December 1994 (In Japan) to being discontinued on the 23 of March 2006 is basically one of the longest lived videgame consoles that has existed.

Yes the Comodore 64 beats it, but that was technicaly a home computer.
