I saw the wild robot when it launched. The robot design is worse than in the book but still enjoyable.

Been bingeing some Halloween movies, starting the other day on, uh, Halloween.
This series has more timeline fuckery than The Legend of Zelda. So far I've gone this particular route

Partly for Jamie Lee Curtis, and partly because H20 is the only one that I actually saw in the cinema when it came out, back in the tail end of the previous millennium. I could tell I'd seen at least part of the original 1978 movie before too, idk if I fell asleep in front of the TV or what.

Anyway, my feelings from this viewing - the original number 1 is a pretty solid classic, earlyish slasher, banging soundtrack obviously, final girl putting on a good show. Number 2 followed on pretty well but JLC spent too much time lying/sitting around looking scared while others were taking part in the action. H20, big time jump, we'd all been told in great detail by the Scream movies (footage from Scream 2 shown in H20 fwiw) how the scary movie rules had changed by this point, and it was fun to see JLC take on the modernised final girl (final middle aged mom?) trope and kick some butt. Resurrection, bit of a waste of an important character and bit of a silly trash movie, whatever, I don't watch slasher movies for the intellectual stimulation I guess.

I might go back and hit up the rest of the retro '80s/'90s timeline next, or at least as much as I can take of it, before rejoining JLC for the most recent 3. I'll get to the Rob Zombie versions at some point.
Please watch Halloween (2018)

The Substance - Absolutely loved the movie. Fantastic acting from Demi Moore, great practical effects, sweet blend of body horror, comedy, with commentary on female beauty standards, miracle drugs, and aging, and LOTS of butt shots! Great editing and a wide variety of camera shots that kept the movie from dragging or being boring. The 2 hours and 21 minutes flew by for me. Amazing set design too. It succeeds on every single front for me, it's now my favorite movie of 2024.

Explain? What promise? I'm a huge fan of the entire franchise. :)

He fell down the mine at the end of 4 and 5 picked up immediately after.
The girl turning into another one of him... That was how they made it look at the end of 4 by her behaviour and the doctor's (comedy) reaction, but in 5 they decided to explain it away as Michael controlling her

I can see your point, but I'm okay with how they handled that. Thank you for elaborating. For me the huge mistake was
H6 when they made him a cult member instead of just an evil killing machine. The Producers Cut should have been what was released for that one.

Haven't watched that one yet, but yeah there were enough hints in 5 that that was the direction they were heading

Idiocracy. This is a weird one because I think it's aged spookily well in places and badly in others. The language in the movie is dated, but many people nowadays still flippantly say the R-word and F-slur. The CG and green screen stuff is too obvious to the point of being distracting. On the parts where it aged well, the overall drop in intelligence in society, I think it's better represented by celebrities and influencers, the people who have too much sway in public opinion, they're idiots. Brawndo is totally Logan Paul's Prime drink. This movie showcased Crocs way before they became popular, Mike Judge was sort of ahead of his time. The movie has been jokingly referred to as a documentary, but there's some merit to that.

Take away all that, it's a pretty good comedy with very likable leads in Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph, and a fantastic performance from Terry Crews as President Camacho.

I agree, Terry as president was hilarious. I love stupid comedies, so I enjoyed it. Been awhile, I need to watch it again.

Donkey Skin (1970) is such a nice musical

I just watched it on the weekly block of retro movies on one of my terrastrial tv basic channels...
I liked it times ago, maybe it was the frist one trying to introduce me into furry culture. : )
Great to see it as decently digitalized version.

Alien Romulus. Decent movie, but very predictable. You know exactly what you're getting with Alien. It didn't disappoint, but it didn't do anything to stand out.

And before that, The Wild Robot. A masterpiece of animation. I rank it above Inside Out and alongside Soul, but below How To Train Your Dragon. 3D animation has gotten so good these days that it can nearly look hand drawn.

My theory is that once he said he owns hacked Switches and sells them to friends, probably discussed about it on the same subreddit that Nintendo sued a bunch of modders on. Or, the second, being that he decided to log off and move on with his life. Maybe one day he'll come back to GBAtemp.
