The folder method does seem to be the best approach. A static link that doesn't change when the files are edited, ability for multiple users to edit, it even supports the Configurator's translation method as you can have all the files in the one folder. Good work finding it.

Thanks,

now we have two opportunities:

- I am ready to share the folder with all the interested people, so that they can add their language files freely (I need to receive by PM their google account)

- we can create another google account for the configurable loader (or maybe use the googlecode CFG loader account) where to share another folder... in this case a developer has to publish the folder and share it with te translator... (again the google accounts of the translators are needed)

Just decide what is better for you...

I think it's best you sort that out amongst yourselves. I suggest anyone who wants to share should contact you by PM to join, or otherwise they just create their own Google Docs link. Could you perhaps make a quick post with the details they would need to PM and a quick set of steps to follow to create it on their own?

Oh, I should mention this might all become moot soon. We have someone creating a server to store the translations. Once that's done, then it will likely be possible to just download translations via the loader and Configurator.

Well, if we will have a server for this soon we could just wait...

In any case, to share the folder I just need to receive by PM the google account (and google email) of the interested guys..
They can add a file in their google docs page by pressing the "upload" button on the top left hand side of the window...
Then, select the uploaded file, right click with the mouse, choose "share" then "get the link to share" and enable "Allow anyone with the link to view", finally press "save and close"...
Drag and drop the uploaded file from the main central frame to the shared folder on the left hand side of the page (the folder appears if I shared it with the user) and the game is done..

Hi!

I'm working on French translation and I have some questions:
QUOTE said:
msgid "ERROR: setting up fragmens %d %d"Should it be fragments?
I translated it as "fragment".

QUOTE said:
msgid "Music: Next file index to play: %i"By "index", do you mean "folder"?
I didn't even know we could play while listening to music and as I'm not home I wasn't able to test it on my TV yet.
Is it some new option of Alpha version?

QUOTE
msgid "Music: musicArray contents: "
What is it for? "Array" does it mean "group", "table" ?

"Shooter" is it for: FPS (First Person Shooter), Shoot'em up, or both?
I translated it as something for both, translation of "Shoot", as we don't use a lot "Shooter" (the person shooting) to name this kind of games.

"RAW", what is it for? Games with violence (like survival-horror), rude language, nudity? All? Or something else?

I might have some other questions later as I'm not done yet…

Hi!

Code:
msgid "ERROR: setting up fragmens %d %d"

I translated it as "fragment".

Yes, it's a typo.

Code:
msgid "Music: Next file index to play: %i"
By "index", do you mean "folder"?
I didn't even know we could play while listening to music and as I'm not home I wasn't able to test it on my TV yet.
Is it some new option of Alpha version?

It means index as in number. Cfg plays music while it is running. If you choose a folder for it to play music from, then it will select random songs from that folder to play. The index indicates which file number in that folder is playing (e.g., file 7 of 9 where the index is 7). It should be noted that this text will only appear in debug mode.

Code:
msgid "Music: musicArray contents: "
What is it for? "Array" does it mean "group", "table" ?
Yes, it is the listing of all the song files it has detected. This is why the index is mentioned earlier, it is the index into this array. Again, this text only appears in debug mode.

"Shooter" is it for: FPS (First Person Shooter), Shoot'em up, or both?
I translated it as something for both, translation of "Shoot", as we don't use a lot "Shooter" (the person shooting) to name this kind of games.
I'd say it covers all games where you shoot guns (first and third person), probably not shmups. It really depends on what people wrote into WiiTDB.

"RAW", what is it for? Games with violence (like survival-horror), rude language, nudity? All? Or something else?
I don't know. It doesn't appear in the filter list and searching WiiTDB for a Raw genre finds nothing. I think you can ignore this.

I might have some other questions later as I'm not done yet…

If i recall correctly this is for hdds or SD cards without a partition table but using a wbfs filesystem on the whole device, in other words, the WBFS is on a RAW disc, not on a partition.

Thanks for those answers.

I translated "array" as "collection" and for the rest it was what I thought but I needed to be sure.
(And by the way I kept "index" which is also used in French for this context.)

About "RAW" I kept it and added French translation between brackets.

Ok so here is my first version of French language file:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7E9S51WQ

Update Edit: New French language file available here

This is definitively not last version, as I have to change a lot of sentences to make them shorter or I have to add some line breaks with \n

Because as I just tested it (I couldn’t when I was translating), French is way too long compared to English.

And the result on screen is having sentences on 2 lines instead of 1, or even having sentences hidden by some other.

It's really ugly so I still have some work…

I will make sentences shorter even if it's not translated literally.

For example I had:
QUOTE said:
msgid "Select the game you want to boot"
msgstr "Choisissez le jeu que vous voulez démarrer"
Then I changed it toQUOTEmsgid "Select the game you want to boot"
msgstr "Choisissez le jeu à démarrer"
which means "select the game to start" so it's the same but shorter: 1 line instead of 2
rolleyes.gif
.

In brief some revision will come later…
I'm done for today.

But enjoy first version for those who can't wait
wink.gif
.

On that, I would suggest putting it back to just RAW. That translation appears in a section that only has room for about 4 characters.

I have a lot of thoughts and question to share here:

1) First of all, for translators some good tip is to use screenshots.
It helps you to quickly make your translation fit to original text (number of lines, spacing, etc.).

If you need I uploaded English screenshots <a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OC6YERVL" target="_blank">here</a> <strike>
(and French one <a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G1Q5HN83" target="_blank">there</a>).</strike>

Note: I updated French screenshots available <a href="http://www.megaupload.com/?d=INE3KJU1" target="_blank">here</a>.

If you don't already know to do screenshots you need to add home=screenshot to your config.txt file.

<strike>2) After "fragments" I've found some other little typo:
-"MANAGE" is too closed to < > compared to above text (<a href="http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/4788/manage.jpg" target="_blank">see here</a>), it need some space before & after.</strike>
<strike>-"press button 1 for options" on Open Disc (<a href="http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/830/opendiscdot.png" target="_blank">see here</a>)
some dot . is missing in order to be the same as above lines.
-When filtering game by genre, category name doesn't appear on top (<a href="http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/9489/filtergenreen.png" target="_blank">see here</a>)
There should be some grey text saying "Filter by Genre".
I think it's because genre list is too long.</strike>

<strike>By the way, what is game gender order based on? It's not alphabetical for sure. (Anwered <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=205397&view=findpost&p=2564379" target="_blank">here</a>)</strike>

3) It's not very important but I noticed that USBLoader folder name has caps sometimes,
and some other not (see <a href="http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/4423/generalopten.png" target="_blank">screen 1</a> and <a href="http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9615/generalopten2.png" target="_blank">screen 2</a>).

4) I have some question about translating this part:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->msgid "Missing"
msgstr "manquantes"

msgid "Missing "
msgstr "manquantes "<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I translated it twice as feminine gender and plural (once with some space after and once without)
because I've seen it's used for "covers"
(which is feminine plural in French) like in: "downloading all missing covers".

But could you confirm me that those "missing" aren't used somewhere else
for other gender or singular stuff?
Because in this case it wouldn't need "es" at the end of my translation.

<strike>5) In "Press - button to delete FS." does FS stands for "File System"?</strike>

6)Instead of this ellipsis character … (… in HTML Code) which stands for 3 dots
(to do it it's alt+0133) it displays [?] (<a href="http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9308/ellipsis.jpg" target="_blank">see here</a>) so I changed it back to 3 dots.
CFG is not really utf-8, isn't it? (Note: I saved my file as utf-8)

7) There are still some sentences that I wasn't able to translate,
or translation doesn't appear on screen:

<strike>-"Are you sure you want to remove this game?" => It's still in English
and it's impossible to make some screenshot of this page (I don't know why it's disabled).
-When filtering games, if I choose some genre and I don't have any game of this genre
it shows English text:
"No games found! Loading previous game list..." instead of translation.
(Impossible to make screenshot too because it's too fast).
-When I go to "Open DVD", there is still "Start this game?" text in English on top, see <a href="http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/518/startdvd.png" target="_blank">here</a>
And also "rated" "for" "players" as you can see on this screen but it's also on USB game info.
-"Make sure USB port 0 is used" (the one close to the edge) it still displayed in English.
Note: it happened if I unplug my USB Drive and look for USB mass storage, then wait for the 30s timeout.
-Note: Loader restart is required for the update to take effect. => Appears untranslated too (<a href="http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5163/loaderrestart.png" target="_blank">see here</a>).
-When installing game "free of" and "GB" (<a href="http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/4953/discinstallfreeof.png" target="_blank">see here</a>).
</strike>
And also some text that isn't inside .lang file (so it's normal that it isn't translated):
<strike>-GB (for game size, I would need to change it into "Go")
-On choosing partition screen: "<b>Size(GB)</b>", "<b>Mount</b>", "<b>Used</b>", "<b>UNUSED</b>" aren't translated (<a href="http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/7746/partition.png" target="_blank">see here</a>).

-And the type of cover: <b>DISC</b>, <b>FLAT</b>, etc. even if it appears the time of downloading only.
And as explained by cambric <a href="http://gbatemp.net/t205397-language-files-for-configurable-usb-loader?view=findpost&p=3062051" target="_blank">here</a>: </strike><!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><strike>the whole sentences "3D cover", "Full cover", etc etc, should be translated and not only the word "cover"...</strike><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<strike>-ASC/DES (see here) (It would be "CROI/DÉCR" in French for Croissant/Décroissant)</strike>

<strike>I noticed that: "<b>Press %s/%s to select device.</b>" is translating "<b>%s/%s</b>" into "<b>LEFT/RIGHT</b>"
while I would like to have "<b>G/D</b>" instead. That's why I had to change it back instead of keeping "<b>%s/%s</b>".</strike>

<strike>And as I already said before:
"<b>Console Def.</b>" (next to "Language")
"<b>Game Default</b>" (next to "Video")
"<b>Force PAL</b>" (next to "Video")
aren't translated</strike>

<b>On game option some things are still untranslated:
-Language (for example "English" is "Anglais" in French)
-Next to "Game History" => "On</b>"/"<b>Off</b>"/"<b>Japanase Title</b>"/"<b>English Title</b>", etc.

<strike>8) Last but not least problem is that even if I shrank my translation it isn't lined up as it should be
(as it is in English).
See <a href="http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/8823/sortnotlinedup.png" target="_blank">screen 1</a>, <a href="http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/745/notlinedup.png" target="_blank">screen 2</a>, <a href="http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/4627/gameoptnotlined.png" target="_blank">screen 3</a>, and <a href="http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/9578/discoptfrnotlinedup.png" target="_blank">screen 4</a>.</strike></div>

That's all for today!

Keep up the good work!

Jabe.

The ellipsis character is not in our character set yet. We have been debating whether to add it. The current full character set can be seen in this image.

2) Meant to be that way because it is not a changeable option, but a menu button
Game genre list is from the most frequent genres in the database when I made it
3) Yeah...I noticed a lot of inconsistencies...
7) Ah, I probably missed those then. I'll go through and make them translateable
8) I thought I had that working, but guess not >

I just wanted to be sure it wasn't coming from my .lang file.

Ok I understand better, you're right "Manage" is just a link compared to above text.

Little French language file update (version 0.7) here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I097CKVF

(I updated it on my above post)

(French screenshots updated too)

I also noticed some other text that isn't translated here:
Are you sure you want to delete this partition? (see here)

Edit:
And I also forgot to talk about following impossible to translate text:
"Game Default"
"Console Default"
"Force PAL"
etc.

Edit 2:
I also noticed that when installing DVD game, if I remove the DVD on purpose test following text appears:
"WARNING: read error (-2)"
"wbfs panic: cannot modify this partition table. Please report the bug".
Could be good to be able to translate this too!

I have collected all the translations for cfg 52a from the first page: DE, ES, FR, IT, NL.
Fixed various syntax errors and updated to cfg 52b messages
Messages that are missing a translation are in XX_miss.lang
which is for reference only, so that translators can find the missing pieces easier.

edit:
52b_lang2.zip
replaced fragmens with fragments

I have collected all the translations for cfg 52a from the first page: DE, ES, FR, IT, NL.
Fixed various syntax errors and updated to cfg 52b messages
Messages that are missing a translation are in XX_miss.lang
which is for reference only, so that translators can find the missing pieces easier.

edit:
52b_lang2.zip
replaced fragmens with fragments

Thanks Oggzee,

Italian translation for Configurable completed and uploaded.

The link in the first post is still the one to use.

Thanks for everything,

Cambo
