Hacking L2 and R2 buttons not working on retroarch PS1

I was playing MGS1 and can't seem to select my items, does anyone know why? the L2 and R2 buttons don't seem to do anything at all.


EDIT: Someone told me I just had to go into the setting so issue resolved now.

    If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
