Late reply, but I've done it before. The SNES version had a trick with the Wheel ability, at least in the versions I've played. You apparently slow down into a corner and then let go. You remain in a perfectly round wheel shape, and you're not only invincible, but anything that touches you gets murdered fast.
The Heavy Lobster battle works the same way, but you have to luck out and hope he comes to your corner long enough to die. Everything continues as normal, with the parts of Heavy Lobster flying away even though it's no longer there. =P
Oh yeah. Get Wheel in the first area with the Gims and Beam Ball things through Mix. Good luck!
