So, I am passing a kidney stone... This is my 4th one. I started passing it last Friday, so the day of my birthday was going to doctors and stuff... Lol what an amazing birthday aye?

Well, anyway, I was just curious if anyone else here has ever had one?

If you are not familiar with kidney stones, I'll give you a little 101 on them.

There are 4 types of stones, 70% of stones are caused from oxalate/calcium.

Stones can range from 1 mm to 9 mm or even bigger. I am not sure what the biggest stone ever is... Hehe.

The pain is a constant want to shoot your brains out type pain... I'll explain why the pain is so bad.

I am using myself as an expample. I am passing a 3 - 4 mm stone that hasn't reached the ureter yet. Once it reaches the ureter, it will be passing through a 1/2 - 1 mm sized tube... I think mine might be 1 mm, but it could be smaller, I'm not sure. So, I am passing a stone that is at least 3 to 4 times bigger than the tube that it will be going into. Once the stone goes into the ureter, that is when the real pain begins. Stones are almost always jagged and rough and can tend to cut up the ureter and sometimes cause you to pee blood. The pain is from the stone blocking the flow of urine, and then the ureter freaks out and starts to spasm... The ureter is a muscle.

It can take days, weeks, or even months to pass a kidney stone.

My very first kidney stone ever passed the same day, it was a small stone.

My second took 2 weeks to pass and I was puking everyday and I couldn't eat or drink and nearly died from being so ill.

My third took 9 days to pass. My third one passed 6 months ago, and I am passing another now.

We'll see how long it takes my 4th one to pass.

So anyway, if anyone actually read all that, kudos to you!

Just thought I'd share the pain of my life with all you lovely tempers out there.

Doesn't sound too too fun.

Did you ever ask your Doctor why you have these kidney stones? they are natural to an extent...but having 4 already in a short lifespan doesn't seem very natural at all. I'd not be too pleased if I were you. Is there anything you can do to ensure that this doesn't happen so often? I'd do everything I could to prevent them. Hopefully you are not unfortunate enough to have a genetic predisposition. Like Hypercalciuria...

Doctors like to let the kidney stone pass naturally if they are small enough, but if this one is too big and takes too long to come out, then they might have to remove it... I hope not though, because if they do, they take a device and stick it up your pee hole into your bladder and then up the ureter and take it out, and then they risk scarring the ureter which wouldn't be good... Then they stick a stint up your that goes from your bladder to your kidney and it looks like this...

Don't look if you are squeamish... Lol.

Oh man, that sucks. How old are you? I always thought only really old people got them. And I also thought they could break the stones using ultra sonic waves or something, to make them easier to pass

I'm not sure... I am wondering if maybe something is genetic that is causing the stones, because my sister has had 8 kidney stones and she's 27... My uncles has had many kidney stones too, and my mum has had one.

I am going to ask the doctor to do some tests and find out because this is not enjoyable for me.

They tested my last kidney stone and it was formed from oxalate/calcium, but I don't eat a lot of oxalate enriched foods or a lot of calcium either. So, I am baffled as to why this happens so much.

Lol, I didn't even realize she said that... Lol I am kind of dumb when I am drugged up... Someone told me to hit the tab button a few days ago and I was like "tab button?" Wtf there is no tab button.

Damn those pain killers, they make me feel like a retard.

Huh? I just know some people who've gotten them. I haven't gotten them myself. I did say some. Not all. >_> You confuse me.

Ah, okay. Its just the context of how you read it. 'I only know people who've gotten kidney stones' could mean 'I only know people who have had kidney stones' or it could mean 'I've never had them, but people I know have'

From what I know they're caused by diet? Diets high in those foods, with salts tend to lead to kidney stones I believe (also high blood pressure too). I think kidney stones can be easily prevented by drinking plenty of water (not just fluids, like soda and juices), because this helps dissolved them before that percipitate into a solid. You're sister, uncle, and mom could be because you're close family and have similar diets, of course genetics can be a factor as well I believe, but not likely for kidney stones. One reason they say to drink plenty of water is to prevent kidney stones. Basically more water means the less chance of all those salts precipitating together into a solid. Hopefully you get through that soon though >.< sounds mighty painful. My mother went through passing those as well before

I hope this doesn't sound harsh, and if it does it was not my intention, I'm just curious -and ignorant-:

Despite the pain, are these stones dangerous? -As in life-threatening-

Hope they're not and I also hope you get better soon, in the meantime.. *puts some Pink Floyd for you*

I know that you're supposed to drink lots of water... I drink on average about 2 - 3 quarts a day. I don't eat a lot of salt either.

My sister's diet is much much different than mine... We don't live together, so she eats pretty bad stuff. She has an addiction to lots of sugar and salty foods. Same goes for my uncle, we don't live together and he eats a much different diet than I do.

My mum has only had one kidney stone, so she isn't too bad. My mum and I live together, so our diets are similar.

I don't have high blood pressure either. It's actually really low for my age. My doctor has been concerned about that for a while because it's kind of abnormally low.

Anyway, I don't know what the cause is. I will try to find out!
