Current Sony Computer Entertainment head Kaz Hirai may be assuming the role of Sony president following Howard Stringer.

In a report by Nikkei, Howard Stringer, current President of Sony, will be stepping down as president and becoming CEO and chairman of the electronics manufacturer. Hirai, who was promoted to Sony Computer Entertainment head last year, will be assuming the role of president as early as April. Sony has not yet confirmed this rumor, but Hirai will apparently receive the role whenever Stringer ends his presidency of the company.

Hirai began working for Sony in 1984 as part of its music division (Sony Music Entertainment Japan) before heading their game division in North America (Sony Computer Entertainment America) in 1995. He is most well known for orchestrating Sony's E3 conferences and being a prominent figurehead during them.

How will Kaz Hirai's leadership change the company (if at all)? What does this mean for the future of Sony? Add your input and discuss!

People are overrated.
(this will not change a thing)
Yeah, take that, people! That's what you get for... being.

On Topic, congrats to him. He's certainly come a long way from E3 2006. For his first act as President, can he officially make Kevin Butler the VP of everything?

He's definatelly a good P.R guy - it's all in the voice and in the face expressions. He has to work a little bit on his hand gestures ("interlinking fingers" suggest dishonesty, that there's something hidden that he doesn't want to talk about), but in general, I'd say he'll be a well-recieved President.

I really like Hirai quite a lot. He well deserves this role.

and yeah, his English is fantastic for a Japanese (perhaps comparable to western standards!)
