Ok so the entire reason I want a K1 and not a 101 is because I love the clamshell design of the SP. However I got an email from the K1 guys saying they do not have any in stock.

Does anyone have any idea where I can score one? Or another GBA sp clone that is capable and plays GBA games at full speed.

Any help here would be amazing!

Oh and this is my first post in a while! I had an account here some time ago but it disappeared, so I opened a new one.

Or if someone has one they want to sell so they can buy the new k101 I am happy to cut a deal! I am specifically looking for the black one, but I will settle with another color.

Are they gonna get anymore in stock? Or are they going out of business?

the sp design is nice, the shell feels rather authentic and the screen was bright. the system is easy to set up and works with most sp peripherals.

many users reported d-pad and button issues. ignoring the broken HTML, you should read my review. http://gbatemp.net/threads/k1-gba-sp.332120/

if you are willing to open up the system and attempt to place some type of rubber pads on the button contacts, then the unit would be a great purchase. compatibility is rather high (although not perfect) and the k1 gba sp does not suffer from the same software save corruption bug as the k101 revo.

I have a question. If I use an EZFLASH iv card instead of the Kcard with the K101, That will obviously resolve the save issue, but will I be able to boot NES GG and GBC roms from the EZ flash iv?

I don't think EZ-F IV can do saves, but it can do something like savestates from my understanding.

i can't fully recall what i read but the remember someone saying the ez flash iv freezes on the k101 revo, or that it worked on the k1 gba sp. you might want to dig a bit to make sure it will work before you buy it. i'm not sure how saves would work because it isn't actual gba hardware, its a system on a chip.

you won't be able to directly boot retro roms, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy them. the k1 integrated emulators are just modified ports of already existing gba retro emulators. google for pocketnes, smsadvance, goomba color. those 3 will allow you to play nes, gg, and gbc. also check this thread for more info: http://gbatemp.net/threads/slot2-emulators.77065/#entry1010653

I have been digging, but cannot seem to find anything about EZIV freezing on the K101.

You said in an earlier post that the save problem was software related and not hardware related, but that this issue does not exist in the earlier model. So is the firmware from the K1gba able to be used in the K101 to rectify the issue or are the two systems completely different?

no, their hardware is different. i think the firmware may also be tied to the PID. you also risk bricking the system by attempting to flash the wrong firmware, and with the lack of official support you may never get it unbricked.

So they went through all the trouble to make a newer (better?) version of the hardware but they don't care to fix the issue with saving? I mean, without the ability to have an assured save, why would you ever play 50 percent of GBA games, and IMO all the good GBA games save your progress in some way.

its not really newer or better, its just different. the k101 has a RTC and different buttons. as far as the system on the chip is concerned, its the same. again, the saving issue popped up with the k101 firmware. it never existed in their first release, the k1 gba sp design.

the problem is that the developer behind the hardware and software is 1 person. this was never a team effort. getting bugs fixed and compatibility updates is worse than pulling teeth.

Has the developer made any comment or statement that he will try to fix this issue? I just really want to play my GBA games on a gosh darn handheld again, I cant stand this pc emulation nonsense, and my actual GBA carts are in Canada ( I am in Korea) Not to mention that carrying around like 40 gba games is a bit ridiculous. So the clone system seemed a fantastic solution.

Are there any other GBAclones out there that work amicably? Is there a way to get ahold of the K1GBA sp?

does anyone know what kind of clone this is?

the last i was told was that the developer was trying to fix the save issue. after a lot of testing he finally had saves go missing but was not sure what was causing it. they also had people at the factory test various files and they reported no issues. after that everything went quite. that was more than a few months ago and i think someone just pointed out that his development website is gone.

It's not that you can't save it just needs a special button combination like for my revo it's the brightness button & start .

the problem we are discussing is that saves become 0 byte for no reason. the issue is completely random and the dev never figured out what was causing it. it only affects the k101 revo. there has been an ongoing discussion in the gba handheld section. http://gbatemp.net/threads/revo-k101-problems-with-loading-saved-games.338485/#post-4491491

I was told the k1gba units are done. But they sent my revo a few days back and it is apparently in stock right now. However if this save deal is...well a big deal, then I may recommend buying something else. Like an actual GBA and an EZflashIV.

So I guess I will frequently be backing up my GBA saves...poo
