O3dsXL
sysnand - v 6.3.0-12U
emunand - RX-E 10.3.0-28U
rxtools - 2.5.2

using this - http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/
successfully installed everything (FBI....) in the emunand
trying to install FBI in sysnand to use DEVMODE and update my sysnand to 9x

rxTools - Roxas75 (2.5)
>Other option
>>Install FBI over H&S app
>>>Press X: Sysnand
>>>>USA and error
Copied fbi_inject.app/tmd (same one i used for emunand) and repeat the Install above again to Sysnand

Now after I restart the O3dsXL and open S&H app - "An error has occurred ...."
What did I do wrong and help please - I know im pretty close but im stuck on this one

I just want to make the 3ds easier for my young son to boot up to his game

Did you boot into rxMode before trying to open FBI? FBI does not have valid signatures so you'll have to be in a sig patched mode to open it.

when you unlinked nands your system created a folder under 3ds so you must again set up import.db as well as title.db files and let the data management app in the system settings app do its thing
edit sorry i did not read fully you said you did that

2nd edit wait no you did not

I had this problem this week! I'll follow this topic to learn what I should've done.

If you boot into rxMode don't you go to the emuNAND?

I understood that I had to install FBI on sysnand to use the sysupdater on devmode.

depending on the rxtools release you are using you hold either "L" or "R" when booting rxtools then the menu opens and gives you a choice of sysnand or emunand among other things booting sysnand in this way is known as in rxmode sysnand as opposed to booting normal firmware sysnand by simply powering on the console

You can choose to boot rxMode sysnand.
But don't do that. Go to advanced settings and boot devmode.

...uhh . . . here
Launching rxTools at boot - Menuhax!

These steps will setup Menuhax, which we will configure to allow rxTools to boot the moment you turn on your 3DS/2DS! IMO this is the best way to launch rxTools.

Note:
You must be on 9.0 - 9.2 firmware. This means your sysnand has to be on or between 9.0 to 9.2 system version. To update to 9.0 or 9.2, scroll down to the section How to Update your 3DS/2DS to 9.0 or 9.2 and follow the instructions, then come back here.

  1. Download the Homebrew Starter Pack and extract the contents to your SD card root. Put the SD card back in your 3DS.
  2. Set a random theme on your 3DS, then change it back to the default theme.
  3. Launch browserhax (it took MANY tries for me to finally get it to boot). Zoom-in all the way to the slider at the top-left and touch the very right of the bar. It may work touching the very left side as well.
  4. Once in the homebrew menu, run the menuhax_manager v2.0 installer and install menuhax.
    • (At this point, I also set a custom button setup so that it loads sysnand only when I hold R. This is Type 2 in the config menu.)
  5. After all that, test if menuhax boots you into the homebrew menu at cold boot. Just turn off your 3DS and turn it back on. Be sure to hold a button (or not), depending on what config you chose. The default is to hold L during boot. In my example above, I don't have to hold anything to launch menuhax, but if I hold R, then menuhax won't launch.
  6. Now to set it to boot rxTools instead, download the latest CTRBootManager. Rename the boot.3dsx that is on your SD card to boot_hb.3dsx. Then place the boot.3dsx and boot.cfg from the CTRBootManager download onto your SD card root.
  7. OPTIONAL: Open up boot.cfg with notepad and change this:
to this:

Now save the boot.cfg, eject your SD, and put it in your 3DS

When you turn on your 3DS, you should see the red screen, followed by the rxTools splash screen. If you chose a custom button setup in the Menuhax installer, keep that in mind. By default, you must hold L when booting to let Menuhax run at boot-up. In my case, I chose TYPE 2, and selected the button R. This means that Menuhax will always run at boot unless I hold R (which would bring me to sysnand instead of rxTools).

yes thank you
i'm trying that right now and i was pretty successfully all the way to almost lunching my rxtools
i get a purple screen with:
-------------------------------------------------
Err:Couldn't load arm9 payload
Press any key to continue
------------------------------------------------

i'm thinking of following this -
but since i'm already got to boot almost all the way
i'm thinking of replacing the ff:
boot.3dsx
rxTools folder from this - rxTools_10-02-15_19-07.9f48bb8
firmware.bin from the [MEGA] [CIA/BIN] MSET 4.X & 6.X backups, Browser backups, Update packs (All Regions)

will this work?

just a recap - finally got it working
download - rxTools_2015-12-05_08.48-a08cfdd
>cdn_firm.py -to create the firm folder and copied in rxTools folder found in the same folder (rxTools_2015-12-05_08.48-a08cfdd\release\rxTools\firm)

download - rxTools_10-02-15_19-07.9f48bb8
>cdn_firm.py -to create firmware.bin and copied in to rxTools found in the first download above (rxTools_2015-12-05_08.48-a08cfdd\release\rxTools\sys)

Delete the ff in the sd card: see "Removed from SD.jpg"

Now i copied the rxTools from "rxTools_2015-12-05_08.48-a08cfdd" folder - see New SD card.jpg

Hope this help

I didn't notice it when I had the 3DS working. Where did I had to go to change it?

You can choose to boot rxMode sysnand.
But don't do that. Go to advanced settings and boot devmode.

In the image above you can see the DevMode option. I clicked it and I was able to use the sysupdater on what I think that was the sysnand.

Not sure why, but I bricked that 3DS :P

Is there any way to know for sure that you are on Dev Mode? I mean, the FBI and sysupdater programs run normally, I thought everything was OK.

If it bricked the 3DS, are you 100% sure you had the right update pack for your 3DS?
There are different update packs for N3DS and O3DS, so make sure you didn't accidentally get one for N3DS to use on O3DS or something.

Also if something went wrong while moving the update files to your SD card and they corrupted somehow, this could also cause a brick.

The only way to know you are in DevMode is to trust that you selected the DevMode option on the menu.

I don't really have to know right now :( I'm not on that computer anymore, so I guess I'll never know.

I truly hope I didn't brick it because I was stupid enough to download the wrong update pack.

Next time (the other 3DS I have here is on 10.1) I'll make sure to also check the files on the SD card.

Thanks for your help.
