I see varying degrees from people and need to know before I start pouring into it.

    My cases for it:
    1. I opened it up and checked the internals. See below. There is no tell tale sign of a big circle thing. Also there is a Nintendo logo with a circle around it.
    2. The logo seems holographic, not shiny. I am not 100% on this but I was sure when I first checked out some sites.
    3. The case is somewhat transparent, not solid red. A picture is below.
Please seek the photos in this post and tell me what you think.

    Welp, yeah, it's a fake.

The board should look like this:

Notice that is the European version, it has the CE. Mine has the American "E".

It doesn't matter, the boards are the same, be it PAL or NTSC. Just look at the Integrated circuits, that's clearly a fake chinese EEPROM on your board.

Looks legit from here. Slight transparency on the housing is correct and the internals look fine and have the Ninty logo. If it is a fake its probably a good one.

The deal breaker is what country did you buy if from? If its from Hong Kong or something its probably fake.

Yeah, that's the reason why I don't buy most GBA games online, sadly :(

So where should I go to buy a legit version of this game?

I'll try to return it but I doubt they'll do it. A waste of 40 some bucks.

    That didn't help.

I specifically bought a DS Lite to play this game. I'm just pissed about 40 bucks down the drain and I have no idea where to get something legit.

Usually Amazon is really good about getting your money back if something a 3rd party sells through them is suspect. If negotiating with the seller fails try appealing to Amazon customer service.

As long as it plays and saves correctly, does it really matter if it's a fake?

I don't want to dump a bunch of time into a game if there's a chance of it wiping itself like almost every fake owner claims

You can't migrate from fakes. Fakes are also glitchy.

Yeah, I can confirm (As the writer of a few bootleg guides) that it is fake. The E on the ESRB logo is too thin. That was the dead giveaway for me. Try checking with some local pawn shops in your town, you'd be better off getting a legit copy of Fire Red from there. Plus, if you use a fake, you can't import to 4th Generation games - they have a way of checking for bootlegs, and if it's fake, it wipes the bootleg's save data.

The text inside the Nintendo Seal isn't even centered properly.

    Also, nice Sriracha.

They did refund me the money and told me to destroy the game. So I got at least some satisfaction.
