    EDIT. actually, try with a rom hack first. they're sometimes easier depending on the genre/type of game/format.

    Welcome to the forums! Also if you are looking into making homebrew or programming, PALib is a good resource. Also even without the hardware, there still the possibility of using emulators to test your games and such.
