I tried to install bannerbomb for 4.2 all 3 freeze any ideas?

you're doing it wrong.

4.2 bannerbomb is used differently from older bannerbomb

or you forgot to put the boot.elf in the root

I just put the boot.elf in the root and i go to the sd card menu

What about explaining how it works then?

Be sure there is a boot.elf in the SD card root, then run bannerbomb by going to the SD card Menu (the SD icon in the wii menu)

Be sure bannerbomb is the only thing in the private folder on the SD card
Be sure there is no boot.dol in the SD card root

It is the only thing. I just got it back from nintendo Idk if it is something they did the 1st time i did bootmii it worked perfectly

BootMii as Boot2 is the best brick protection
But if you can't install it, get Priiloader

Perhaps buy an external harddrive and launch the games off that?

Yeah, maybe they upgrade new dvd drive on your wii that wont allow you to play backup games. As Evil-Popeye said buy an external hard drive.
