For $60. Only thing wrong is the screen is red and most apps that are installed on it crash back to the home screen immediately. I'm doing a factory restore on it now.

    I believe it's a first gen.

After the restore it'll probably work fine, but it sounds like the red screen would be really annoying. So a red glaze is over the whole thing?

Yep, whole thing. It's not bad when in the settings, or safari, but the home screen and other apps are annoying. I'm trying to get itunes to recognize it again now (keeps giving me an unknown error after the restore). Restore didn't fix the red. This sucks, I was looking forward to using isculptor..

If your apps don't work (Besides Safari, and I think Youtube) then it needs an update.

I remember mine, and my sister's did that a few years ago and updating it worked. I don't know for sure because I haven't touched my iPod in years.

Eh..I would of saved up $20 more dollars and got one off ebay. I got a 2nd gen with a small crack at the bottom right of the screen (very unnoticeable) for about $70 (though it was from bidding).

I did an update, apps and games are working fine now. It's just.. red. I've been reading that it may be the screen itself (which is a cheap fix, but I don't trust myself with opening the thing up).

Jin, I have plenty of money, money is no issue. I just like getting things as cheap as possible. And bidding on ebay is very annoying. I'd rather do a 'buy it now'. But the chances of getting a good deal through 'buy it now' are slim.

would have saved my money for at least a 3G..

2G and 1G are pretty much borderline useless with the new apps coming out

    *

*says the one with a iPod Touch 3G 8GB (that is actually a 2G)*

Huh? How is it 3G if it's actually a 2G?

i wouldn't try to fix the screen itself... you might damage the digitizer if you dont do it right

IIRC the digitizer, lcd and the glass are sort of glued together

its possible, but i heard its hard

Dude, you got ripped of. 8GB, red screen, a myriad of problems all for $60? I'd have rather gotten one that worked properly for a little bit more or same price. But then i don't know the value of American money too well.

Don't you read? Everything is working fine except for the red screen (which I found the cause of today, the previous owner had accidentally spilled 'hair oil' in her purse and some got inside the ipod).

Also, replacing a touch screen and LCD isn't that risky, I've done it a few times already in a DS phat and on a few PSPs, it's not hard. I just don't wanna break any of the latches that hold the case together.

After doing a little shopping around, I'm gonna do it myself.

Only that one is capacitive and one is resistive. I've seen the inside of an ipod touch, it's not that different. They work the same way (touch digitizer with adhesive on the edges laying against an LCD screen).

You use iTunes. Setup your info in itunes, then just drag and drop your mp3's into the right spot in itunes and there you go.

Because Apple are [censored] money sucking soulless beasts.
They sell you a 3G 8GB with the same hardware as a 2G (any size), when 3G 16GB and 32GB comes with upgraded specs. Failed to mention this upon purchasing though.
